The book Black Movie by Danez Smith reveals to the reader how it is like living as an African American in the United States. Through the poems narrated in the book, the reader is drawn into a world where African Americans are forced to endure and make the most they can out of the position they find themselves in. the word choice and the style of writing draws the reader in, revealing the two themes that are portrayed by the poems in the book. One theme that is evident is the lack of appreciation of the African American lives. Compared to white’s lives, the lives of African Americans are seen as less valuable and this is seen in the poems narrated in the book. As a result, the African Americans face more suffering and are given lesser opportunities to prosper and better their lives compared to the whites (Smith, 2015).
The other theme that is portrayed in the book is the innocence of African American people especially young boys. Despite the challenges and the circumstances they find themselves in, some of the young men in the African American community remain innocent and only want to excel. They have a lot of potential and given the chance, they possess the capability of making a better life for themselves. These two themes are seen throughout the book and the author is able to show that, despite the challenges that African Americans face, they have a lot of potential and are only victims of circumstance. If they were given the same opportunities as the whites in America, they have a lot of potential that would enable them to live better and more comfortable in their community (Smith, 2015).
Reviewing the Premiere of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
The Ninth piece of music seems as the construction of mirrors that reproduces and refracts the values, wishes and the fears of those who have the wish of understanding it. Since it was first performed, the music has stimulated completely as it continue conflicting explanations. These explanations include the earlier listeners and the commentators who had a proof in that Beethoven had lost it. As they talked about the piece of music that it had an impossible technical demand while all its illogically utopian humanist idealism in the setting of the vocal in its last movement led to insanity. This piece of music has been the music that has motivated the tactic of musical analysis. Some people feel that Beethoven was too successful in writing the piece of music that would be sang by every human while its vision was much global that it would be politically dangerous. The tune that Beethoven composed as the motto for the whole world to follow it and to become the national anthem of the people. How a person viewed the music was base on what kind idea they had on mind, this would be whether al people should become brothers or that all who did not become brothers should be eliminated (Sachs &Harvey, 76).
The symphony on the song is based on the political history as it has been the anthem of the European Union. Given that the ninth symphony is for the whole universe, there are many different trials for it to show how the music ties the room and the audience together. It should break its troubling discontinuities and the differences by hearing it as a steady revelation of the Ode to Joy theme. This tune is constantly anticipated in the previous movements as someone can hear the climax as the local conclusion of the process. Beethoven makes the travel so open at the start of the climax as the cellos and the basses resist the music from the previous movements. The musical course is paralleled by the tale of the emotional piece of music which starts with the burial of the old heroic nature in the first movement. Beethoven saves his final masterstroke which is a brief and a breathless coda with a theme that he leaves immature and authoritative in that he puts himself into a greater effort. This means that the motivation he could make was a mere preparation of something which was greater but he was unable to provide. Therefore he leaves us suspended on a threshold for others to have and to enlarge (Buch & Esteban, 145).
Beethoven ends his great work of music not with a successful finale but with an open imaginative challenge. The depth of the challenge is extraordinary since no other piece of music has motivated such approving remarks from such a wide range of critics and epoch. The most recurring and important themes is its sheer emotional extent and the outcome that no other music has ever harmonized. Thus it can be stated that Beethoven’s infinite has opened a new world for us as the music discloses some unknown secrets about the holy art. The effect of the Beethoven’s music on the other musical groups is possible but exceptional as it has increased the capacity of the piece of music in extent and the appearance. The music’s third movement presented the world in its expression as it was also firm to head and not viable to go after it in a recital. In its account, it can be said that it linked the previous break amid the voiced tune of the compositions and the only active melody. The music symbolizes the initial unregulated sudden occurrence of unpolluted feelings in art which was up to that time ruled by official control (Buch& Esteban, 151).
Not like any other musician, Beethoven was a beneficial person who altered the approach of the conception of art thus several other musicians who feel to do their personal piece, inherits his spirits from Beethoven. This music has inspired many recorded descriptions. As a way of making sure that his work is accurate, Beethoven respected the metronome. As the attention of the audience focuses on the end of the choral, the work id much momentum for increasing the time scales of music. The whole first movement of the song is dramatic through the exhibition and the recapitulation of the developed work of art. Beethoven has the power of fulfillment of his dramatic, piece of music and the social vision that portrays many questions that remain unsolved after the performance. Beethoven sets chiller’s loneliness as he depicts the lines based on the punishment in the center of the exposition of the Ode to Joy theme with a strange depiction which is sung by the soloist and this brings the audience to a moment of doubt among an increase of affirmation. The music’s irony is that Beethoven while dreaming of his music of the pleasurable and loving association with the other humans who he searched for; rarely found those partners in his own life and this made his music become what he could not. In the music that seems shocking and disturbing and the triumphalism description of the Ode to Joy tune, Beethoven has trombones and male voices drone the starkest of clinches. This is not about the spiritual or bodily console but something much stranger and deeper (Saloman &Ora, 200).
The section of the climax sounds out the personality fear at the coldness and immensity of the space, putting the listeners in touch with the small uselessness as persons and even as communal humanity faced with the depths of creation. What happens after Beethoven make a space sounds cloak on a vertiginously leading that sparkles with strange tremolos is that music rip back to earth for the start of the symphony’s surprising successful policy and the Ode to Joy theme leaps around in a triple time blast. The climactic combination between the cosmos and the worldly celebration is only among the most fantastic contrast that define the finale in particular and the piece of music as a whole. The increasing severe cuts as the piece of music continues can be well in the Beethoven’s service of the compositional credo that even when he was composing the music his cultural aim was to keep the whole in view. The whole still remain puzzled with questions about who we are as a society and the purpose of our lives should be and what the limits of the piece of music might be. The ninth piece of music is a realization of the limitless potential of the music to show that we are, that is the reason as to why Beethoven’s ninth piece of music is the central artwork of the music in western (Saloman &Ora, 215).

Flowers, Diamonds, and Gold: The Destructive Public Health, Human Rights, and Environmental Consequences of Symbols of Love
Introduction
Gifts such as cut flowers, diamond, gold and jewelry are used on anniversaries and throughout the year as objects that symbolize affection. Their purchase is associated with the traditional belief of how important they are hence the maintenance of an aggressive market (Donohoe, 165). Most people value the beautiful objects as it is more of a custom than what the aesthetical products do to the environment. For sellers and the makers of the product means more business hence increase in profits while for scientists it is a way of damaging the environment, serious health problems, a contributor of violence and a source of forced labor. This article will review the environmental and health consequences and the abuse of human rights that is connected with the production of gold, diamond and cut flowers including the arguments that show the violation of truth through the selective argument of the unfair research in order to abide by the reconsiderable principle.
A worker in a flower farm a worker earns less than what a cut flower earns in an American market but they have subjected low pay and no job benefits. Floriculture farming is one of the most pesticide consumers which mean that workers in the greenhouses are subjected to very high levels of pesticides. As a result of the pesticides effects, the workers have to serve health complications as there are no proper handling and the removal of pesticides (Donohoe, 165). During important holidays such as mother’s day employees are forced to work for long hours of which they are not paid for overtime. When a worker becomes pregnant she is dismissed unfairly. People work in order to have some income and they rarely see thing from a different perspective. They are expected to work more be efficient and very little is given to them. The health complications they find themselves are simply regarded as just a means of making ends meet. Flowers are considered important in religion, heraldic and folk, as they mean, love to those people one care about but however the beauty of the flower masks the whole system that is marked by environmental degradation and exposing many people to toxic chemicals. Therefore as much as flowers symbolize love and affection their continued growth has left so many people exposed to very adverse health complications (Donohoe, 166).
There are serious and adverse effects on the environment and the human health mostly in the developing countries. The multi-national corporations have numerous profits as a result of the flower sales to major markets such as America (Donohoe, 166). Most of the companies care about the profit levels as they are rarely re-invests in the major economies that engage in growing of flowers. Considering the profits made by such corporation and the programs they have in order to make the workers more comfortable and their health safeguarded is very minimal. As the industry claims that floriculture jobs are more stable in by the use of greenhouses than in traditional farming is not true as it has used selective information in order to support its argument. By using more land to grow flowers rather than the local foods for consumptions raises the cost of food whereby the locals use the salaries to buy food which at times leads to malnutrition when it is not enough. Flower production also uses large quantities of water which results in a drop in the water tables affecting the environment (Donohoe, 167).
Diamond deposits are found deep underground subjecting many diggers and miners in dangerous working conditions, very little pay and unhealthy conditions (Donohoe, 170). Diamond jewels are used to show affection to the loved ones that we care about but leave the workers in such an industry exposed to adverse risks. The mine owners with conjunction with the local and national government have taken some actions that have led resettlement of the people making them leave their traditional homes by a way of compensation. This shows a violation of the human rights as most of them do not move willingly but they are forcefully moved. The indigenous people’s right is violated as they have no right to question the government. This is done in order to make the people leave their land and settle in different areas. Such compensation is used to blindfold the people so that they won’t have any excuse as to why they will not leave. The compensations made are not suitable compared to the billions of profits made. The numerous profits made hinder the government and the owners to see the adverse effect the mining activities fastens environmental degradation to regions already experiencing ecosystem pressures such as deforestation and overpopulation (Donohoe, 171).
“Diamond is forever” (Donohoe, 170) is a slogan that has continued to be effective to most Americans as they emphasize on the value and the profit that arises from the use of diamond. This is not true as the mining of diamond has continued to affect the people and the environment at large. The exporters of diamond earn a lion’s share from the mining activities who are mostly foreign nationals who rarely reinvest in the countries of mining. Due to the profits made through the mining of diamond, there have been fights like in Sierra Leone where thousands were killed as they seek the power to control the diamond mines. As a result, there been extradition of thousands. Miners have been exposed HIV and AIDS from the sex slaves (Donohoe, 171). This is another factor that contributes to poor human health and poor standards of living as most resources are used to cater for the sick. Many people tend to believe that gift in form of a product made from diamond can be able to express love because it is considered to be worthy. Very few people show the negative effects of continued exploration of diamond due to the profits they make. By the use of this product to show affection as most people believe that it is very valuable as it signifies love many people are left to suffer as they are exposed to greater risk which can cost them their life.
Gold has been dominant throughout the history as it is considered valuable and it has been used as a medium of exchange due to the recognition it has gained but only from a selective view that does not consider the effects that arise from the exploration of gold (Donohoe, 172). The use of gold wedding rings has hastened its demand because of the special chemicals it has together with admirable properties it has including durability, malleability and the resistance to erosion it has. These factors have lead to its demand not considering the fact that historically it was used as a poison (Donohoe, 172). People tend to believe that the product can no longer be poisonous due to its diverse use even in medical use.
As gold is considered valuable due to the profits realized through its mining it is one of the most dangerous industry in the world. This is because at least 40 workers are killed a day while a number of them are injured (Donohoe, 173). There is violation of human rights as they are forced to work. The mining activities lead to environmental degradation and pollution. Communities lose their traditional livelihood as a result of mining (Donohoe, 174). There are also economic problems realized in the long term and poor public health. Due to an increase in gold dependence, there has been poor economic growth, increased poverty and which encourages government corruption. Gold is associated with cyanide and mercury which not only contaminate ground water but it is also harmful to the environment and the human health at large (Donohoe,175).
Conclusion
Many people are not aware of the numerous disadvantages that arise as a result of using these products as they symbolize them with love and affection for those they care about. This is because as they tend to make their loved ones feel happy there are those that are severely affected as a result of the products. Therefore consumers should not put so much value in the products as there are more severe effects realized. Consumers should change their entire conception as they have been made to believe regarding the items as symbols of their love and affection. They should emulate substitute gifts as cards, photos, and art in order to present a care for the environment, a stop to child forced labor and a stop to human rights violation.

The study of literature involves the study of people, societies and their associated cultures as a whole. Through the works of literature, the representation of a society’s culture can be interpreted. Authors normally represent culture through literature, sometimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly. There are some works of literature that represent a single culture while other works represent two or more cultures. One literary text that represents a single culture is the 1884 text by Mark Twain “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”. One literary text that represents more than one culture is the 2000 text by Pam Muñoz Ryan, “Esperanza Rising”.
The text, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is about a white boy named Huck who has to defy the odds and go through a lot of trouble to rescue and free a slave named Jim. This novel represents the American culture in the 19th century. A lot of American cultural values can be seen through the characters of Miss Watson and Widow Douglas. Widow Douglas adopts Huck and wants to civilize him. Civilization here included a number of things such as teaching him table manners, how to read and write, teaching him about the bible and religion, and dressing him nicely (Twain, 1884). All of these things are part of the American culture and they were being imposed on Huck even though he did not want them.
The other cultural value that is represented in the novel is people’s attitudes towards the slaves and slavery in general. The society believed that slavery was okay and that those slaves that ran away were bad. In addition, to help a runaway slave was equally bad. Even though Huck helps Jim, the runaway slave, Huck reflects the attitude that it is bad to help a runaway slave through the story. He feels bad about helping Jim and in several occasions, he almost tells on Jim. He sometimes feels that God is punishing him for deciding to help Jim (Twain, 1884). Therefore, in the American White culture, slavery was a good thing.
` On the other hand, the text Esperanza Rising is a story of a young Mexican girl from a rich family who owns a big ranch. When her father is murdered by her uncles, she and her mother flee to California. The story portrays two culture one in a wealthy family in Mexico and the other as a farm laborer in California’s Central Valley. In Mexico, the story brings out a culture of luxury and privileges as Esperanza enjoys a lot of material things. Six years later, in California as a farm laborer, she has none of the luxurious things she had back at home. She is in a culture where immigrants work on farms under very poor conditions (Ryan, 2000). It was a norm for Hispanic and other immigrants to become farm workers under very poor conditions with very little pay. This text is multicultural because it presents two cultures, the Mexican, and the American culture.
The two texts present the aspect of culture through the experiences of their main characters. Both of the characters are young and are struggling to understand how things worked the way they did. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn uses Huck a young boy (Twain, 1884) while Esperanza Rising uses Esperanza a young girl (Ryan, 2000). The use of children as the main characters in both texts was instrumental in questioning the cultures. Hack tries to go against the American culture by helping a runaway slave Jim. On the other hand, Esperanza has to deal with the American prejudice against the Hispanic people. The two literary works bring out that a given society’s culture can be harmful to the other people who are of a different origin and culture. While the American White culture was okay with slavery and use of Hispanic immigrants as farm laborers, such culture is portrayed as wrong by the texts. The two books criticize this oppressive culture.
Examining of culture through literature is of great importance. The use of culture in literature improves culture awareness among students and as a result they understand and appreciates the literary heritage of different cultures. Students usually benefit from literature that reflects their culture as they can be a very important tool in helping them to develop self-concept based on the knowledge of their cultural background. In addition, studying culture promotes understanding among different cultures. This is because it extends the students knowledge among a wide range of cultures which in turn leads to decreased stereotypes among individuals of other cultures. Multicultural literature shows the students that they have common human emotions and therefore further helps in the elimination of stereotypes against other cultures.
Literary works have always been used to represent cultures of different communities. Some texts only represent one culture, For instance, the text, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn only represents the American Culture. Other texts are multicultural as they represent more than one culture. For instance, Esperanza Rising represents the Mexican and American culture. It is important to examine culture through literature because it helps the students to understand and appreciate other cultures which in turn serve to reduce stereotypes against other cultures.

Simplicity denotes clarity, beauty or purity. This means that they are not complicated and they are easy to understand. It portrays straightforwardness, candor, and guilelessness and is free from duplicity (Mounce, 2). Eva Cassidy has expressed simplicity in the song named Danny Boy. To begin with, she has absolutely an amazing voice that can absolutely stun anyone. Her voice creates admiration as she has an astounding talent (Cassidy, 2-3). Her voice is something to write about. She is a specially gifted singer as her voice could evoke many memories and thoughts due to the capability of her voice to transport words filled with emotions and weight. Her voice is magical as one cannot listen without shedding a tear. Eva can sing as she is able to express her words well with her attractive voice.
Deanna Durbin has an amazing voice which makes her outstanding. Her beauty s also overwhelming will is the first sight of attraction. Her heartfelt version of Danny boy can bring tears to the eyes. She sings devotedly as she is seen to be tearing up as she sings it (Durbin, 1-2:50). She articulates the song so well which makes it perfect for a woman to perform. She gives the song a beautiful rendition due to her lovely voice. Her performance is satisfactory in all ways as she has a lovely expressive voice combined with a beautiful voice and a truly heartfelt performance. This makes her song version the loveliest. She also shows great efforts as she is able to hit the high ends well without a struggle.
Elvis Presley is an absolutely outstanding interpretation of Danny boy. He makes the version beautiful by turning it into a classic song. This makes the song great and wonderful (Presley, 2:50-3:30). He also transforms the song to be an exquisite clip that is simply astounding. This shows how magical a song can be by just changing the tone. Elvis is able to make the song beautiful and entertaining by using a different channel.
Therefore for the three performances it is true to say that Eva Cassidy outperforms all the other performances as she is able to evoke emotions which are difficult to achieve. Eva is able to achieve a thriller performance due to her capability of using stylistic devices (Schiffrin et al, 295). A smile can attract, create attention, and can also be descriptive (Cassidy, 3-4). She has also been able to use metaphors, synecdoche, metonymy, charactonym and imagery effects that have evoked a sensory detail about the song. Her sound technique is also at par as she has the rhyme, alliteration, assonance, consonance and rhythm which have helped her frame the story so well.
The stylistic musical embellishment has been used in the Danny Boy song by Eva to enhance the intention of the message. The use of the stylistic embellishment has created awareness because they can also be used to create dishonest figures (Mendelson, 276). This shows that the graphics are used along with the recommendation so long as the users and the designers are aware of the limitations. The process of using the embellishment involves the identification of the purpose, the analysis of the data and the application of the techniques to be used for manipulation and enhance the representation. These stylistic embellishments to create a powerful emotional impact which facilitates the audience recall and retain the information and the concepts (Mendelson, 278).

Performing a search on Scholarly database can be very hard at first. First I try to assess the list of the main key words that are connected to the topic I am evaluating, and then I use the Boolean operations and combine the keywords that I think may bring the best results. For this assignment, I chose a subject that is connected to surgery but I decided to have a divergent database for this specific discussion. The main concern and the keywords during the surgery was the prevention of hypothermia in patients during the operation process. Hyperthermia in the perioperative period is seen at the rate of 50-90% and it is known as the hub temperature which is less than 36 degrees Celsius. (Boudah, 2011)
During the surgeries that consume a lot of time, there are times that the surgeons put more effort to sustain the patient under the hub temperatures within the normal limits. The articles that were yield by the research were the prevention of perioperative hypothermia in surgery and perioperative thermoregulation and the review of temperature. Temperature review on the surgery process mainly depends on the patient’s age. With the idea in mind, either core or near- hub temperature can be used in perioperative time after a risk under the benefits review has been conducted. Its prevention can be conducted by determining the patients’ thermal comfort levels (Boudah, 2011).
On how I narrowed my search was that I got an understanding of the basic science of the thermal control, the techniques of hypothermia in the perioperative process and the provision of personal control in giving the anesthesia care. Therefore I got the article on the risk factors where the risk factors on the hyperthermia according to any surgery process should be recognized. They include patients with trauma or those who have fluid budges. The results from the search confirm that hyperthermia is a normal happening on the unarmed surgical patient and is connected by morbidity and death. Thus the evaluation of the body temperatures to control hyperthermia through the active warming control methods is the features of preventing its complications (Boudah, 2011).

The sole purpose of conducting research is to come up with factual evidence that supports the accepted theories. It also entails the detailed study which is carefully done on newly discovered knowledge. I as well support that there is no guarantee in doing perfect research because of several reasons. If research conducted is perfect, there wouldn’t be need for revising proven theories. This hence would mean knowledge would be limited. This would be due to lack of an opportunity of gaining new knowledge that would render new improvements .People would be stuck with more challenges because there would be no advancement on knowledge acquired.
The typical example of a research that was carried out in the solar system, clearly shows that there is no end to a research. We grew being taught there are nine planets in the solar system which was identified by the earlier researchers. Tombaugh discovered the presence of Pluto which was seconded by several astronomers which led to Pluto being publicly announced. Pluto was given the title of being a planet on the solar system. After a research done on August 2006 by the international Astronomical Union, Pluto became discredited as being the one of planet in the solar system .The knowledge that had been implanted on us on having Pluto as one the planets was swept away. .This was due to the new rule by the International Astronomical Union after their research. The rule stated that planets should be clear the neighborhood around its orbit .If research that had been conducted was perfect there would have not been any need for revision of the proven theory. This primarily verifies that there is no hope of doing perfect research (Griffiths 79).
The use of the sun and other constellations of the stars as a guidance in foreseeing a person’s destiny by early astrologers. This lead to the birth of the zodiac signs that have been used over the centuries till now. The signs can be used to point a person’s personality .They also provide with adequate information that they may require to plant and harvest crops. Zodiac is the road map of people lives, the signs play an important role in people lives .Astrology is prepared for a child after birth to foresee the infants’ future. Minneapolis Star Tribune in January 2011 made an announcement that the zodiac signs had shifted. This change meant a change in peoples` personality also affecting many lives of people that depended on the horoscopes as a way of livelihood. This example proves that there is no hope of doing perfect research (Griffiths 79).
In conclusion, as stated above, I support that there is no hope of doing perfect research. This is because there is a continuous improvement of proven theory due to the modern continuous researches. This ensures improvement of knowledge and also making lives better for human beings. New researches tend to modify previous ones by improving them or totally changing them. This makes it clear that there is no hope for perfect research. Research is always continuous as people aim to get solutions to their researches and also aim to get more and new knowledge. Research will be ongoing for ages and ages due to people’s curiosity.

Question 1
One becomes a brand when their privacy is interfered with. This involves sharing pictures with friends which are then shared among friends as the trend continues. This leads to the individual becoming a brand as the images are utilized for individual purposes. Additionally the fact that feminine power is defined by looks also makes teenage girls vulnerable to bullying. "'Bros before Hos'": The Guy Code
Question 1
The gay rules include no sissy, being a big wheel, and are a sturdy oak. This, therefore, means that guys are not supposed to talk using the feminist terms as this demonstrates a sign of weakness (Kimmel, 609). The second one means that the power of being a guy is determined by the masculinity that they hold. One has to always remain at the top of everyone as a man is supposed to. The third one asserts that a man should be built strongly in ensuring that they are fully ready for any situation. One has to remain had and never be ready to express their weaknesses or emotions. On Kimmel assertion of the fitting of the guy code, it holds that the rules apply in the societies today as masculinity is utilized in determining who is a man and a gay man (Kimmel, 608).
Question 2
The development impacts their emotional lives because they are not supposed to express their weakness through emotions. This implies that even when faced with the toughest situation they are supposed to remain strong and stiff. No situation is capable of moving a man. This, therefore, implies that the relationships of these men with others are changed as they have to act as others shields when they have no one (Kimmel, 611).
Question 3
My friend lost her grandmother and since he was very close to her the event blew him emotionally. As a guy, he was not expected to express his weakness and he tried to remain calm despite the growing urge to break down. The incident developed a lasting impact on my understanding of masculinity because I believe that no situation is capable of allowing a man express their emotional or physical weakness.
Question 4
Young men are pressured to utilize proof in showing that they are not gay. This is because they are not expected to utilize feminist terms as they illustrate their weaknesses. In addition, they are not permitted to express their emotions as they are termed as weak and being gay (Kimmel, 614).

In the USA female presidency is not well accepted which is similar to other sections of the globe. The masculinity of men is more trusted based on leadership as compared to women who are viewed as weak (Rosin, 6).
Question 5
The measures are warranted because gender imbalance is increasing taking place. This is because the female gender is increasing dominating most of the social, political and economics backgrounds. The girl child is increasingly being preferred thus forgetting to consider the male child (Rosin, 7).
Question 6
Her depiction is fair. This is because in the prior century the male gender was dominating the economic, political and social status. The influence was mainly generated by culture and not based on their capability. This, therefore, hindered the ability of women t illustrate their traits and skills. The image that rosin presents in regard to men is that they need to up their come because the world is becoming a competitive place and culture has little influence (Rosin, 7).
Question 7
The most common example that is illustrated in the media is the alpha male. This is because despite the huge efforts by females to make changes the world has not fully embraced the fact that women hold adequate capability. The masculinity of the men is still dominant in the political and economic world. I, therefore, disagree with her general analysis.

From the great Gatsby, it is clear that the characters of Gatsby and Tom are much more alike than they are viewed. However, the characters hold dissimilarities also. Both characters utilize different individuals through the whole story and additionally not either of them loves Daisy truly (Fitzgerald, 8). The major difference is that Gatsby is demonstrated as a more pleasant individual than Tom. Gatsby is presented to be more egotistic than as compared to Gatsby. Both characters have a distinct personality but they are able to relate to a mutual secret affair that appears in the book.
Tom is presented as a villain or rather an antagonist. This is illustrated by the fact that he is a racist person and therefore mistreats individuals that he associates with (Fitzgerald, 26). Although he loves Daisy he views her like a possession more than a partner. He breaks the nose of his mistress myrtle because she mentions Daisy. In the death of Daisy, he seizes the chance of implicating Gatsby thus leading to the death of George and Gatsby (Fitzgerald, 28). Tom is a person who originates from a money background and he is proud of where he comes from. On the other and Gatsby is from a poor background and in order for him to secure himself out of poverty he works hard to achieve success and money. Gatsby is therefore presented as a hero, unlike Tom who is an antagonist (Fitzgerald, 6).
Gatsby and Tom have one thing in common which is money infatuation. After Gatsby met Dan he got a taste of wealth and therefore his approach of getting Daisy back required him to get more wealth accumulation. The pursuit of Gatsby towards Daisy is associated with material value as well as money by there is some degree of idealism as well as love. However, he is different from Tom because despite the fact that Tom loves Daisy it is clear that the love held by Gatsby is more based on ideology, genuine and more passionate (Fitzgerald, 32).
In regard to Tom, it is challenging to establish any redeeming qualities in him. On the other hand, Gatsby is an idealistic and an admirable hero. However, he also has his flaws that are illegal activities engagement. They are also similar due to the fact that their actions resulted in disastrous impacts. Gatsby destroys Tom and Daisy marriage due to his feeling while Tom was involved in the negative deeds (Fitzgerald, 44).
Tom can be defined as a brutal man because he is repeatedly established with his physical character. His moral character is illustrated by the activities he is involved in and those things that he does (Fitzgerald, 24). This involves cheating on his wife, hitting myrtle and giving George hope which leads to his murder. Tom can thus be described as an old money. This is because despite the fact that he is raised in a wealthy background he fails to value the privilege and power that the wealth held. Gatsby, on the other hand, is new money individual. This is because everything that he owns has been built by him as he rose from poverty to riches (Fitzgerald, 48).
Gatsby situates in dissimilarity to Tom’s cynicism that is hardened. Gatsby is an impractical character who believes in a dream while Tom does believe in dreams because he holds none. In addition, Gatsby is a person who is made of his own projections, dreams, and hopes and on the other and Tom is an individual who is designed by the surrounding (Fitzgerald, 34).

I learned that I can to me literature is an individual and a communal experience. Additional I discovered that I have a great interest in discovering theories, words, characters as well as the utilized character lines. The joy of literature to be is to analyze and discover fresh realities which are crucial in assisting my interpretation of the provided literature text (Papaioannou, 4). However, I discovered that what hinders me from interpreting literature effectively is the failure of utilizing how language and rhetorical devices are utilized. I learned the skills that I possess I can be a god literature interpreter with the utilization of words to analyze and describe scenarios.
Moreover, I learned that analyzing and understanding each word is essential. This, therefore, requires the utilization of the literature devices as well as the plot. Confidence is an essential element in making analysis, comprehension and interpretation in increasing efficiency which includes personal values as well as effective communication. Communication skills influence the interpretation of literature as it helps in better understanding (Papaioannou, 3).
Part II
Fences by Wilson August
Introduction
In the literal form the fence by August Wilson can be described as a physical barrier which can thus be utilized in separating elements in developing a single element which is invisible from the other elements. The play utilizes the fence as a symbol of the great struggle that exists between figurative and literal definitions of blackness and humanity (Menson-Furr, 6). The fence is effective in preventing the interaction that occurs between two different elements ends. The fence is utilized as a boundary form that separates the opposing existing sides. Troy together with his own son was structuring a boundary which is crucial via the play as it is symbolically utilized in highlighting the different divisions that are presented by the play. Therefore this piece of paper seeks to make an exploration of the argument about how forgiveness and judgment work as major themes in the play the fences by Wilson august as well as the suggestion that is made by the text in regard to the nature of forgiveness and judgment (Menson-Furr, 6).
Forgiveness and judgment have been portrayed well in the play. This is exposed by the distinct ways like in the case of Cary who was working alongside his dad Cory. In the play, Cory accuses his son of doing nothing beneficial as he is involved in movements while visiting Taylor. This is therefore illustrated as the judgment that is made by Cory towards troy. Through the play’s unfolding scenes it is clear that whenever troy moved to visit Taylor he was mainly going to visit his mistress by the name Alberta. Therefore Taylor was involved in utilizing the excuse of the fence in order to work behind his wife back while cheating on her with the mistress. The fence, therefore, makes his to neglect and forget about his family as well as his responsibilities to the family. His wife was therefore not a judgmental individual because as she is portrayed in the play all she did was to forgive her husband and she gave in to everything that took place (Menson-Furr, 4).
The play takes place in the later period of 1965 when the fights against racial segregation held no positive results (Shannon, 9). Fence portrays that discrimination is everywhere because it resides around individuals. Racism can be described as the basic characterization of individual who are based within a specific ethnic base who holds distinct characteristics. It is thus utilized as a tool of differentiation individuals from others where it is mostly utilized in attacks or in differentiation from others. The major protagonist in the play is troy who is an African-American and because he is a very responsible individual his dreams makes him believe in his individually created illusions. The most apparent interest by August in the play is, therefore, to demonstrate how the segregation that is developed due to races can result in the creation of economy and social gaps between the whites and the blacks. Troy is mainly controlled by racism as his driving force which causes him to make quick judgments that later leads to destructions (Shannon, 11).
In the last scene try dies behind the developed animosity trail that exists between him and his family which he had hurt and judged so much. The story can thus be described as that that describes a tragic hero in troy. This is mainly because he started by being praised and being loved by his family but at the end, he has succumbed to the racism weight. He lost his goodness because he was being controlled by judgments. The impacts of judgment and racism utilized the good part of troy which impact ruled all his existence and demise took place at the end. Troy said, ‘’attempting to hide the huge old watermelon under his jacket, afraid that the white man can see him ’’ (Shannon, 21). The quote is effective in illustrating how black individuals were represented as ignorant and lazy who wants to do nothing but eat watermelon, sing, and dance all day.
The perception held by troy on the things that are wrong and those that are right for Cory are stranded on Troy’s rejection to distinguish an antique conversion in the receiving of the black individuals. This, therefore, instigated Cory to practice an unsatisfactory destiny which is comparable to that of troy. Despite Troy having ruined the future of his family through engaging in activities that were not desirable and deception Rose forgive him after his death. She stated that ‘’I do believe that he did not mean to do any harm but he meant to only do well’’ (Shannon, 27). ‘’I absolve him for all the harm’’ (Shannon, 27).
In conclusion, racism can thus be described as the major cause of judgment. This is because it makes individuals believe in their superiority thus examining the inferiority of others. Troy judges individuals based on their race because he believes that the blacks are not superior and they hold fewer capabilities. The play has utilized the characters that are from the mixed races in order to show how race leads to judgments and how individuals forgive.

Scholarly discussion refers to the communication through the system in which scholarly writings and research are created. The online environment is increasing globally hence the need to encourage and create programs that are advanced, effective, suitable, extensible and economically viable to better scholarly communication to create a barrier-free environment (Ertl, 2010). Through the advancement of scholarly communication, there have been new modes of initiatives that are promising a great future.
The principles of scholarly discussion form the ground rules for this discussion to make it successful. Participation among students helps in the learning environment since there is no lurking in the cyberspace. This ensures maximum benefits for all since everyone must contribute. Report glitches give a chance for the student with a similar problem to share and come up with a solution. This is done easily since they do not have to meet physically ((Ertl, 2010). Through these discussions, a student is able to be clear and articulate a point without being pompous or preachy. In the scholarly discussions, there has been the usage of emoticons and texting as a shortcut method though it is not an academic dialogue. There is also respect to diversity through online discussions which limits racist comments since it is a platform that is ethnically rich, multi-cultural and diverse (Rodgers et al, 2009).
Social networks differ from the scholarly discussion since there is no use of emoticons and texting. This means that there are no shortcuts in the language. The social network is applicable in face-to-face discussions which are different from the scholarly discussion in an online learning environment. Social network discussions carry an amount of weight through nonverbal nuances that cannot replicate in an online environment (Rodgers et al, 2009).

The essay has four sections that are interconnected as the author is progressively using each section to build on the theme of food in the next section. The author uses the first persona voice to narrate the story such as I. The author is a skilled and an experienced writer as she is literal, surrealistic and expresses a dreamy importance for instance the use of if I die followed by I hope statement shows a dreamy expression (Squillante 6). The author uses metaphors in the narration to bring out the hidden meaning within the words. According to the author eating is a touch; this means that eating is a continuous process and laying a hand on food continues even in the bitter moments. Food according to the author extends time, this is quite evident as one cannot survive without food hence in eating of food one gets to survive and in surviving one extends the time they are alive (Squillante 6).
Narayan’s essay
Narayan’s opening remarks in her story is in the past tense narration of the event that occurred a time ago while Squillante’s essay opening remarks clearly indicate that the story is in present tense narration (Nayaran 17). The author in her narration brings out their culture that is their way of doing things, dressing and lifestyle. For instance, she clearly describes the way their kitchen was, the way the mother dressed and she uses the phrase “in India’ in most part of the narration to show how Indians do their things. Cooking and eating in the Indian community is managed by complex rules and regulations. Therefore it is evident that whatever they eat or drink is governed by the rules and regulations set (Narayan 17). The word conscripted as used by the author means that the young people were restricted into being in kitchen but at certain times that’s when they were allowed to help out in the kitchen just like in Ahn’s essay.
Ahn’s essay
The author in his narration clearly outlines the conflict of culture as they seem to come from different cultures as the author’s wife is a Caucasian while the author himself is a Korean and they are both in a Korean restaurant. According to the narration the conflict is in the cultural identity their unborn child would hold since the mother is an American culture while the father upholds the Korean culture. The passport clearly portrays that the author did not have any visible Peculiarities which is not mentioned in the narration (Ahn 22). The theme of food love is one of the themes of this narration. The author highly speaks of the way he adores Korean food from the start of his narration. Another theme is the theme of family as he gives a background on his family and the present family that he wants to have. The theme of culture is also portrayed as he states the way Koreans did their things and how he wishes to offer his son an enough dosage of his original culture. Food therefore is one of the cultural components that the author wishes to use to uphold the Korean culture to his son (Ahn 22).
Bourdain’s essay
Though the fish heads are eaten by so many other states, in the United States it is not eaten this is because of the unwelcoming sight of the animal’s head on the plate (Bourdain 349). The author uses references that are quite ineffectively, for instance, in using the wide open and lifeless eyes in his narration of the fish head brings about a bad image onto our heads that makes the state to refrain from eating the fish head. This makes one reconsider on the food intake and type of food to eat and this influence pour culture.
Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro is a novel that can be described by the characterization of emotional scenes ranges. Generally, the novel describes the perfect examples of an identity crisis. This is portrayed by the Hailsham children who are desperate to fully understand the objective of their bodies’ minds and lives. These children are able to attain an identity sense via their treasured creativity, artwork, collections as well as the delicate social structures that they operate in. The novel presents a society that is dystopian which only centers on identity hunt as well as meaning via self-expression and curiosity. The novel is additionally a portrayal of gripping characters that are stripped of their own identities and labeled with mere identities (ISHIGURO, 3, 2005). The novel is set in the middle of 1990’s in Britain thus portraying the bleak world in which the cloning characters are socially acceptable only because of the aim of becoming actual donors of organs in the actual world. The novel aims it focus on three major characters, Tommy, Kathy and Ruth who are all clones. This essay will, therefore, seek to establish how victimhood is portrayed in Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro.
Based on the novel human imperfection and disease can disconnect individuals from the peripheral world. This often causes individuals to forget their present lives in search for their identity thus losing their future. Victimhood is described as a situation in which an individual feels offended or is offended by a destructive action which is subjective by others. Victimhood in the novel is displayed through the theme of conformity (ISHIGURO, 160, 2005). This is the general behavior of an individual in accordance with social expectations, standards of conventions. The individual is therefore characterized by following the desires of the majority rather than what they feel or are meant to venture in. the characters presented in the novel places a cultural payment based on conformity. This, therefore, presents victimhood because they feel offended by the social standards which have been developed. For instance repeatedly, Kathy emphasizes on her typical nature and on the other side Ruth blatantly duplicates older student’s gestures. Through the characters conformity, the system of donating organs seems to be running smoothly since everybody is fully willing to allow docilely falling into the donor’s fate. The characters are victims of the societal standards and expectations which requires them to be donors in the actual world. This is, therefore, offensive because based on the real identities of the individuals the activities are not what they really are. The societal standards, therefore, deny them the opportunities to identify who they are and what they want to do (ISHIGURO, 186, 2005). The society is therefore characterized by restricted standards which are aimed at marginalizing the conducts of the individuals through the strict conduct codes.
Conformity is crucial in illustrating how victimhood is achieved in Never Let Me Go. However, the author fails in providing solutions to conformity. This is because through the portrayal of all the character there are no characters that are involved in rebellion acts except Tommy tantrum field brief. Victimhood is additionally illustrated through willful ignorance of the societal issues as well as individual issues. The characters are portrayed to be shying away from the pressing need to acquire information even in situations when they feel that they do not what to be involved in what the societal standards accepts them to comply with. The characters feel offended because they are required to do things that they feel are offensive by they fail in raising questions. Ishiguro, therefore, suggests that it is the willful ignorance that is the major mechanism of social injustices perpetuation (ISHIGURO, 144, 2005).
According to Thatcherism rather than regulating and planning individuals’ lives and business it is the responsibility of the government to pave the way by providing freedom to the conducts. Thatcherism depicts a small state and market belief that is guided by freedom (BONI, 12, 2011). The society should, therefore, be constrained to the bare fundamentals such as currency and defense and all the other elements should be left to the societal individuals in order for them to make their individual decisions thus taking responsibility for their lives (BONI, 16, 2011). However, the society depicted by the novel Never Let Me Go is not based on Thatcherism leadership style because the society fails in allowing individuals to make their personalized decisions. The leadership fails to focus on the governing elements such as monetarism and defense thus focusing on controlling the general lives of individuals. The society denies the individuals the freedom to practice things based on their individual choices. The lack of freedom to choices thus hindered social, economic and political development as individuals are guided by societal philosophy. The philosophy, therefore, failed in permitting individuals to interact and communicate in order to hinder thoughts development thus making them victims.
The characters are victims of societal injustices because of they are free will (ISHIGURO, 144, 2005). Based on the novel all the clones are not capable of changing their fates which are directed as organ donors but this is mainly influenced by their free wills which affect other general elements in their lives. For instance, Ruth fails to ever achieve her dream to work in an office which thus shows how the portrayed social restrictions affected her dreams. On the other hand, Kathy gets little precious time to enjoy with Tommy. Ishiguro is effective in illustrating how the lack of free will in the novel is generated from which in turn results in victimhood portrayal. For example, Ruth never attempts to work in an office in order to achieve her dream despite the restriction by the societal standards. Therefore her unhappy life which is developed by living a life with the wrong identity may additionally have been influenced by the lack of initiative to pursue her goal. However, the societal system is more effective in the role of her unhappy life because through the developed expectations and standards the ability to develop thoughts that were outside those set by the society was hindered (ISHIGURO, 148, 2005).
In the novel Never Let Me Go the society is marginalized. This is the situation by which the policies and rules are centralized where all the rules and standards are set by the society. Freedom is therefore not distributed equally as it does not permit individuals to act on their own basis. Homo Sacer is the exception state. According to Agamben sovereign power establishes itself via the production of based on bare and human life exclusion (DOUSSAN, 63, 2013). This is related to the novel because individuals are expected to act in accordance with the societal laws and standards in order to be included. Those that act against the norms is therefore excluding. In this, the sovereign is responsible for deciding who lives being recognized as part of the community and that that will not (ISHIGURO, 160, 2005).
Due to marginalization communication was hindered. Communication failure is an element that best illustrates victimhood. The section of the novel’s elegiac and heartbreaking ending can be attributed to the failure to communicate with the characters. The failure to communicate generates pivotal moments in the plotting of the novel (ISHIGURO, 154, 2005). For instance, the mocking of Tommy’s drawing illustrates how communication was effectively a failure in the society. The communication barriers are influenced by societal barriers which are beyond the capacity of the characters. For instance due to the fear of being excluded from the society Ruth fails to find out on whether her plan to unite Tommy and Kathy worked (ISHIGURO, 162, 2005). The society is, therefore, effective in offending the capability and the will of the characters to communicate because it places strict restrictions that hinder the interactions of individuals. The characters are therefore offended because they are intended to free interaction and communication which is not what their society expects from them.
From the theme of hope that is portrayed in the novel, it is clear that victimhood highly conflicts. Despite the fact that individuals feel offended by societal standards and expectations hope is presented in the novel o make the characters feel better thus permitting them to live better lives. From the novel the clones are much happy when they are in the cottages because they hold the thought that they can apply deferrals at the time which they wish to. The rumor is accepted by Emily as it is crucial in providing hope t the individuals (ISHIGURO, 194, 2005). Nonetheless in the universe of the novel hope is only generated from delusions and falsehoods from the hope of Kathy which holds that at the end Tommy will break up with Ruth to the erroneous hope provided by anticipated deferral curriculum.
The characters are offended by the societal obligation which is mainly influenced by a personal commitment to the society. The donation program for organs is based on the thought that the characters owe their full reside to the people (ISHIGURO, 94, 2005). The principle is, therefore, wrong because the individuals are entitled to self-identity and self-effort. This is, therefore, an offense to the characters because the assumption of the society hinders their freedom to engage in things that may better their lives. The individuals are therefore involved in pleasing the society rather than building their individual dream which thus makes them unhappy. The clones feel offended by the expectations that are drawn by the society thus preventing them from living a life characterized by freedom. From the actual interrogation point of the novel, Ruth and Tommy should live a happy life because they deserve it and they should, therefore, spend quality moments together which they never achieve. The clones did not live a happy life because they were denied their self-identities by the society as it labeled them with mere identities which never made them better. The societal is portrayed as a god in the novel and therefore those that opposed its standards may be playing with their God. Ishiguro explores how the characters may play with their god in the novel (ISHIGURO, 96, 2005).
Questionably the characters who try to transform their fate as illustrated by the societal standards are playing their God because they can never change what is meant for them (ISHIGURO, 101, 2005). The assumption is, therefore, offensive to the characters because they are entitled to determining their own fate that is not directed by the society. However even as the situation makes the characters feel offended by the nature of the expectations they suffer silently as the destructive subjection hinders their capabilities. The clones wish that the guardians can bend the laws and rules and allow them to engage in special things. This, therefore, demonstrates that the clones are complete humans with human desires to the exposure of human experience. This, therefore, shows the extent in which the strict rules that are developed at Hailsham discourage individual interaction as well as intimacy. Any bond with a keeper must, therefore, be conducted in secret because it is forbidden. This is illustrated by the relationship that exists between Tommy and Ruth who must remain secret at all times. Based on Kathy’s explanation on the fact that the students are not engaged in often hugging illustrates extend at which the societal standards hindered the characters from interacting (ISHIGURO, 86, 2005).
The novel Never Let Me Go is connected to Victorian value because it depicts the set of societal values that espouses sexual constraint, low crime tolerance, and a strict conduct code. The set of values is mainly aimed at demonstrating good morals that are developed by the society (LOPICIC, & ILIC, 6, 2014). From the novel, there are strict rules that restrict sexual tolerance and therefore those having intimate relationships are bound to keep them hidden. The individuals are therefore expected to maintain good morals by doing only those things that the society permits them to do. The policies that are developed by the society are therefore purposed to shape the morals of the students. Therefore the society holds low patience to criminal activities thus the individuals are not involved in the questioning of the laws. The clones’ fails to reel even when they felt that the society denied them the opportunity to do things that they felt were good.
From Never Let Me Go it is clear that individuals view the societal laws and standards as the right things thus failing to rebel. According to Foucault governmentality is a conduct of conduct in which the government tries to control and evaluate the behaviors of individuals based on calculated means. This is, therefore, different from t code of discipline which attempts to reforms individuals via supervision in ensuring they are well-being (DEAN, 16, 2010). Governmentality can thus be described as the mode of thinking in regard to the government as being the right form in which things should be done and also achieved. The governing in the novel is not purposed for the welfare of the individuals but to only benefit a few individuals at the expense of the society. Foucault defines the existence of arts as a voluntary and reflective practices in which individuals develop their own conduct rules thus seeking to transform themselves through the developmental of moral values that are capable of achieving a given criteria level. This philosophy is not portrayed in the novel as individuals are denied the opportunity to transform themselves based on the moral criteria that they believe in. In the novel Never Let Me Go Ishiguro demonstrates human intimacy as the only form in which clones rebels against the general system of conventions (DEAN, 17, 2010).
In conclusion, the novel Never Let Me Go victimhood is well portrayed. The situation is mainly created by the societal governance which hinders individuals from making personalized decisions. The society, therefore, expects the individuals to fulfill its expectations thus leading to destructive effects on individual lives. The society should thus rule based Thatcherism which aims at ensuring that it governs the well-being of individuals rather than their individual choices.
