″Modern globalization in its imperial guise?″ A. G. Hopkins and several other historians in Globalization in World History, reflect on the continuing issues that surround globalization. Central to their discourse is globalization as both a Western and non-Western construct with historical roots that span close to three centuries. In this discussion area, we are going to center in on A. G. Hopkins’ superb comparative analysis of Bali and Labrador with regard to imperialism and globalization. He notes in Chapter Ten, Globalization with and without Empires: From Bali to Labrador, that “The two have never been joined for purposes of historical inquiry.” One has to wonder, why not? You are to discuss the reasoning behind Hopkin′s choice of the Balinese and the Innu, giving consideration to the following: How were they affected by “modern globalization in its imperial guise?” The role of identity, myth, social engineering, and postcolonial globalization. Does the story of the Balinese and Innu continue?

  1. REFLECTION PAPER -3 full pages
Please share your reflections of having participated in the group sessions with your classmates. What have you noticed is made possible by the modality? Have there been times you’ve wanted to speak but haven’t? What do you imagine has kept your voice from surfacing? What struck you from the group as Courageous? Scary? Insightful? What are your hopes for coming group sessions?

    My reflection
-Participating in the first group therapy session was very rewarding and stressful; Although I am usually a very shy person when speaking to share my experiences and opinions, I felt quite comfortable with my group and was able to participate a few times in the conversation. The topic of my group is about trauma, at first the concept of trauma for me was not very clear and no traumatic experience was seen to come to mind; since for me a dramatic experience was something so big that marks you for life, thanks to the facilitators I better understood the concept of trauma and was able to start sharing my experiences. My experience of having moved alone from my country to the United States, with a different culture and language, can be considered a somewhat traumatic experience in my life. Moving alone and so young to a country I did not know at all, which system is very different from my country system and also not knowing the language was very difficult for me, especially the first year. I can consider myself quite resilient despite how difficult it was for me to move from my country, I had that strength to get ahead, think about my future and stay where I was; Although I could have returned to my country, with my parents or with my siblings.
I do not consider my experiences to be as traumatic as many of those that my colleagues have had to go through.I am impressed how many of them have had to go through eating disorders, drug addiction, having had to live on the streets, abandonment by one of their parents, mental and physical illnesses; traumas that have totally changed their lives, but that most of them have used positively not only to help themselves, but to help others as well. I feel very positive about what this group has to offer in the future since I feel a very good connection with most of them, we have many things in common, most of us have shared some classes together and some of my colleagues have experience leading group therapy, which makes it easy for many of us to open up more to conversations.

I am attaching additional readings the professor has gave us that may be useful ( citations and a work cited page are not needed)

Unit Reading: Validity and Reliability
INTRODUCTION

In quantitative research, we refer to the concepts of validity and reliability to tell us how well the study measured what it was supposed to measure and how much we trust the accuracy of the results. We address these same basic issues in qualitative research, but they are referred to as credibility and dependability, respectively.

Validity as a Unifying Concept
The process of reviewing literature and interpreting research in light of other published research studies revolves around the concept of validity in research design. What is validity? There is not a unified consensus regarding the definition of validity in research design (Pedhazur & Schmelkin, 1991). However, at its core, validity in quantitative research involves confirmed truth, or how accurately an instrument or study manifests what it is purported to examine (Edmonds and Kennedy, 2017).

Reliability in Qualitative Research
Just as credibility and transferability roughly correlate to the concepts of internal and external validity in quantitative research, reliability has its counterparts in qualitative research as well. We refer to these issues as confirmability and dependability. Reliability, with its emphasis on replication, does not apply well to qualitative human services research studies since each is unique—something that is intrinsic in the process.

In this unit, you will evaluate the credibility and dependability within a selected qualitative research article from your Review of the literature. And likewise, you will analyze and evaluate the properties of reliability and validity within a quantitative investigation you have identified in your Review of Literature within your topic of interest. You will be asked to continue to develop your literature review.

My final paper topic will be "The Impact Peer Mentoring Can have on Freshman Students".

The transition from secondary school to college can be extremely hard for many students. They are numerous colleges and universities that have an arrangement of courses and academic counseling that is intended to address these issues and help with this change. One significant part to help the freshman make this significant progress is a progression of peer mentoring which has been known to assist understudies with feeling progressively incorporated and supported at school. Peer mentoring also has been found to strengthen understudies tirelessness toward graduating.

At least five (5) different research resources should be used at a minimum.

APA Format is the required format for submission.

Papers are expected to be a minimum of 10 pages in length (double-spaced).

**PLEASE READ BELOW & READ ATTACHED DOCUMENT

The paper should include the following:

Table of Contents

Introduction

Introduce  discoveries from different mentoring programs specifically peer-to-peer mentoring supporting first year freshman understudies.

Background of Issue or Topic

Impact of mentees giving subjective reactions about what they discovered helpful and what they felt could be improved in the program.

Analysis of Issue or Topic

Discuss how the adequacy of the mentoring program featured commitments to improving the accompanying, for all mentees: First year experience, level of college contribution, and graduation and retention rates of those freshmen who've been in mentored programs on their school grounds.

GENERAL DIRECTIONS

This written paper has THREE main sections, each listed below; each are required for the final paper and should be submitted to TurnItIn.com as a coherent whole. You will also include a reference page that will be submitted as part of the paper. The total length of the paper will be 4-5 pages, double-spaced (maximum length is five pages, with the reference page being the 5th page).

APA-style citations are required both in-text and in your reference page. If you provide information from the textbook, organization websites, etc., without proper citation, you will receive a 0 on your paper and be reported for plagiarism. The reference page is mandatory.

The paper should be written in a narrative format, but you are encouraged to label each section clearly for your instructor for ease of grading. Do not cut/paste the questions into your document.

You are required to use APA Style Citation Format for your external (agency) citations as well as the textbook citation, both in-text and in the reference page.  APA style refers to the citations only; you are not required to use an APA format for the paper itself, since it is not a research paper and does not require an abstract, methods, etc.

ROUGH DRAFT

For your rough draft, you will turn in an outline of your paper. Each section should be clearly labeled.

FINAL APPLICATION PAPER REQUIRED SECTIONS -- all sections should be written in narrative form.

Section 1: Overview of Service Site

Using one non-profit site that you have chosen in your discussion board, you will discuss the site in Section One. First, list the name of agency, address, and website for the site.

Then, describe the agency and the programs that it offers. This should be a general description of the focus of the agency. Do not just cut/paste large chunks of information from the agency website; paraphrase and provide citations. Because you will be using information from a website or brochure, be sure to provide a citation. You should answer the following:

What is the mission of the agency? (with citation, use quotation marks if you use direct quotes)
What is the specific population that they serve (e.g., "consumers") and the social issue that they address? How do they address the social issue?
How do they get their funding and resources?
How does this agency's work impact the community? What would happen if this agency disappeared from the community?
Section 2: COVID-19 Pandemic Impact on Community Site

In this section, you will discuss specific concepts (highlighted in your paper in bold) that relate to all three areas of physical, cognitive and socioemotional development in this analysis. The goal of this section is to address how the COVID-19 pandemic is specifically impacting this site, their staff/volunteers and their consumers in the physical, cognitive and socioemotional domains. You are required to use at least 2-3 course concepts per domain (6-9 concepts maximum) in this section and provide the textbook citation for each. You are also required to use at least 2 external websites (e.g., CDC, WHO) as references for the pandemic impact.

Do not use generic/global terms: Terms such as "physical development," "cognitive development," "socioemotional development," adulthood and aging," etc., are so vague as to not provide specific descriptions and detract from the analysis. It must be a specific concept or theory from the text

Type your specific terms/concepts in bold print and provide the citation in APA style, with Page #.

Section 3: Bronfenbrenner Model Integration

In this section, use each layer of Bronfenbrenner’s model to discuss the short-term and long-term impact of COVID-19 on this specific site. You can create a generic consumer as an example (e.g., create a false consumer to walk through the model with) or you can speak in generalities. However, you must specifically address each of the levels of Bronfenbrenner’s model (microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem). You do not need to discuss chronosystem.

End your paper with a paragraph answering this question: What could you personally do at this moment to positively impact the site and the consumers they serve, without directly serving them? You can address it at any of the following levels: Individuals, communities, education or government/policy. Provide at least one concrete solution that is realistic given the current social distancing guidelines, and how you would complete this action.

Reference Page

The reference page will be the last page of your application paper. At a minimum, the reference page will include the informational source for the service site (website, brochure, personal communication) and the textbook, as well as the two required external references. Include any additional references that you used to write the paper. This should be written in APA style.

Paper Instructions:

In this assignment, you will consider all the information presented below and decide: Was Ellie Nesler insane at the time she shot Daniel Driver?  Then you'll evaluate the case using each test of insanity to determine whether Nesler was legally insane.

Ellie Nesler, 41, shot and killed Daniel Driver in a Jamestown, California, courtroom on April 2, 1993. She smuggled the weapon into the courtroom and shot Driver five times. Driver had been on trial for molesting Nesler’s 6-year-old son.

The defense argued that Nesler was insane at the time of the crime. Here are the defense’s arguments:

1. Nesler had lived in violent family environments. Her alcoholic father often battered her mother, she was attacked when she tried to shield her mother and two younger sisters from her father, and she was molested at the age of 3 and was sexually abused by at least three other men. As a child, she had thoughts of suicide. She, therefore, had a history of trauma that made her psychologically vulnerable.
2. Nesler discovered that her 6-year-old son had been molested by Daniel Driver, a man Nesler trusted but did not know was a convicted child molester. She was racked with guilt knowing she had entrusted her son to this man. During the three months when Driver was sought by law enforcement for the molestation, the son (Danny) lived in constant fear that Driver would find and harm him.
3. Nesler saw “secret signs” from the routine comments of friends and relatives that ordered her to kill Driver. These caused her to smuggle a pistol into the courtroom and kill Driver.
4. Several mental health professionals evaluated Nesler and, although their diagnoses varied, one included brief reactive psychosis and another post-traumatic stress disorder.
The prosecution argued that Nesler did not act like an insane person and should be found guilty of the crime. Here are the prosecution’s arguments:

1. Nesler’s behaviors leading up to the crime were planned and deliberate. She admitted that she wanted to see if Driver would be remorseful before shooting him. She wanted to see if he would “cop a plea” (accept a level of guilt for his actions rather than plead not guilty).
2. She checked to see if a deputy whom she had befriended would get in trouble if Driver was killed.
3. She made sure no children were present in the courtroom so they would not witness the shooting.
4. Several mental health professionals with credentials equal to the defense’s evaluated Ms. Nesler and argued that she had the ability to distinguish right from wrong.
The format of your essay should be as follows (use these headings)

Case Summary: Briefly summarize the material above. At the end of the summary state whether you think she SHOULD be found guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity and why. (This is  just your own reaction, without considering the specific laws.)

Evaluation of Sanity: In this section, you will apply four possible legal criteria for insanity. Here is a brief description of each one: Insanity Defense Tests.docxPreview the document

In four separate paragraphs, list and describe each of the four rules below, and decide whether that rule would find Nesler guilty or not guilty by reason of insanity.  Justify your reasoning.

M’Naghten Rule

Irresistible Impulse

Durham Rule

ALI Guidelines

Summary and Conclusion: Which rule did you find most applicable to this case? Which rule do you think we should be using?  Why?
