Paper Instructions:

You MUST operationalize your terms ahead of time! The more creative, the better! The idea here is to decide on a
psychological construct like kindness, love, aggression, generosity, etc. Just about anything you can think of! Really.
Spend some time on this. Then you need to operationally define the term. For example, if you chose kindness, then
think what kind of behaviors do you think represent kindness? Some examples are that kindness could be represented
by saying thank you, saying please, holding the door for someone, smiling at someone, holding someone’s stuff, giving
up a seat on the subway, etc. Get the idea? So the first thing you do is generate a list of behaviors that support your
psychological construct. Your paper should have at least four sections clearly labeled with section headers (but could easily have many more!)
and be double-spaced with a standard 12pt font. It should conform to the “hourglass” shape as mentioned in class.
Include a title! Include your word count.
Your paper should tell the story your data suggest! And this should be in your own words from your own ideas.
Therefore, references and citations are not necessary.

Paper Instructions

Please submit your paper, through Turnitin
This paper should contain your research question/hypothesis, an abstract, an introduction/problem statement and a literature review.
Your Research Question/Hypothesis: Your specific research question(s) or hypotheses should be stated in your introductory paragraph and in your abstract.
Abstract: Your proposal will begin with an abstract of your proposed study (one paragraph). This is basically a summary of your proposal and it includes your research question. Introduction/problem statement (1-2 paragraphs): After the abstract, research proposals generally begin with an introductory section that describes the research problem and establishes its significance. This section answers the following kinds of questions: What exactly do you want to study? Why is it worth studying? Does the proposed study have theoretical and/or practical significance? Does it contribute to a new understanding of a phenomenon (e.g., does it address new or little-known material or does it treat familiar material in a new way or does it challenge an existing understanding or extend existing knowledge)?
Literature Review (8-10 pages): This section is a review of the literature on your topic. It is basically a term/research paper on your topic and tells the reader information that has already been discovered regarding your topic. The research problem or objective needs to be situated within a context of other scholarship in the area(s). The literature review presents a discussion of the most important research and theoretical work relating to the research problem/objective. It addresses the following kinds of questions: What have others said about this area(s)? What theories address it and what do these say? What research has been done (or not done) previously? Are there consistent findings or do past studies disagree? Are there flaws or gaps in the previous research that your study will seek to remedy?
Eight sources are required. All 8 sources must be from an academic journal, not books, newspaper articles or magazine articles. You may use these as additional sources beyond the required 8 journal articles. This section requires in-text citations in APA format. You must document your sources using the social sciences standard citation method, APA. This method is actually simpler than MLA. For example, to cite a textbook after you talk about a theory, you need only put the author’s last name and year of publication: His lack of self-control suggests Latent Trait (Siegel, 2008). Then in your References (bibliography), you write: Siegel, L. (2008). Criminology: the core. Belmont, CA: Thomson Wadsworth. To find out the rules for APA style, please refer to the Berkeley Libguide at: http://berkeleycollege.libguides.com/content.php?pid=197278&sid=1650985. You can also look at the APA guide from the library at CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice. http://www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu/research/apastyle2010.pdf .
You can also look at the OWL Purdue Writing Lab:http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ Also, some databases, such as Proquest, will automatically put its listed sources in APA format for you. You can also use citation assistants online or in Microsoft Word. Lastly, you can always go to the ASC for assistance in writing, paraphrasing, and referencing. Include only those articles that support the logic of the argument and/or the proposed research methods. For instance, if you are interested in studying juvenile delinquency; the literature review would include studies on that topic, not domestic violence. Discuss recent developments and potential avenues for new research. Review the discussion and conclusion sections of most scholarly articles – the authors will identify ways to improve and/or expand research of a particular issue. Using the information is a good way to come up with unique research ideas. Finally, your independent variable and dependent variable should be the framework to use in developing the literature review. Remember that your hypothesis will seek to test the relationship between the two core variables, so knowing what the literature says about those two variables will become critical.

Paper Instructions:

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Introduction: This is where readers will have a chance to get an idea of what your essay will be about and what you will prove throughout. Do not give all
of your information away here, but give readers a sample of what is to come. Do not forget to review your writing plan to make sure you are hitting all of
the points that you planned out, while also stating your claim.
A. Provides an overview of the issue you have selected, briefly describing main points and your argument.
B. Compose an engaging thesis that states the argument that you will prove and support throughout your essay. This statement will give direction
to your essay and should be well thought out.
II. Body: The body is your opportunity to describe and support your argument in depth. Make sure your thoughts and evidence are clear and organized in a
way that is easy for readers to follow and understand.
A. Be sure that you write multiple paragraphs that are focused, clearly state their intent, and move logically from one to the other, building the
thesis argument as the essay progresses.
B. Your body paragraphs should support your argument by combining thoughts and ideas with evidence from sources. There is no such thing as a
right or wrong argument; the key is how it is supported and the quality of the evidence used.
C. Address and refute any opposing viewpoints to your argument. This is your chance to discredit any opposing views, thus strengthening your
own.
III. Conclusion: Think of the conclusion as a review of your argument. Use this section to restate your argument and remind readers of your supporting
evidence. Think of this as your last chance to persuade readers to agree with you.
A. Review your argument. This section should consist of a review of your main points employed to support your argument. Think of this as your last
chance to prove your point or your closing arguments.
B. Your conclusion should articulate insights about your argument established through your essay. This should follow logically from your essay,
referring to key points or quotes used to support your argument. Guidelines for Submission: Your persuasive essay must be 5–7 pages in length (plus a cover page and references) and must be written in MLA or APA format. Use
double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Include at least four references cited in MLA or APA format. This assignment will be
completed through the interactive activity provided in your MindEdge eLearning materials and then submitted through the learning environment.

Paper Instructions:

The right of a parent to decide how to raise their children is considered a fundamental right, which means that government interference with that right must be for a compelling reason such as child abuse or neglect. In the case of Native American children, children were often removed from their tribal homes and placed in child welfare systems throughout the nation that were not culturally similar. In response to this, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) was passed in 1978.

As the CPS investigator you have learned that Anne may possibly have Native American ancestry. This is your first case regarding a child from a Native American ancestry, so you will need to research the provisions of ICWA to ensure you are well informed. You are asked by your supervisor to write a 2-3 page paper outlining your knowledge of the following:

the history of ICWA
ICWA provisions
ICWA requirements
Answer the following questions:

As an investigator of alleged abuse/neglect, what does ICWA require you to do first?
How would Anne's lineage be determined?
Can Anne be removed from her home and placed in foster care if she is of Native American descent?

_______________________________________________________________________

As a result of these findings, Anne was removed from the care of her parents and placed in a traditional foster home. The foster home is in the same community where Anne's parents reside, so Anne can still attend the same school. You are the recently-assigned social worker for Anne and want to offer her services to deal with behaviors noted by her teacher such as her withdrawn demeanor, bruises and her torn and dirty wardrobe.

As the assigned caseworker you are responsible for drafting the initial case plan that outlines the necessary services for Anne and her parents.

Draft a 2-3 page "case plan" that includes the following:

What behaviors has Anne exhibited that would require service intervention?
Which services would you recommend to address those behaviors?
What services would you offer the parents based on the findings of the investigation?
Does the current placement in a foster home appear to be the appropriate type of placement for Anne based on the allegations and her needs? Why or why not?
