Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:

Please use the brexit doc with its sources as a base for the paper and the example paper as a guide to what kind of content I'm looking for.

The SPEECH Project will include:
•    Title: the subject of your choice
•    Intro (½ to 1 ½ pages) : An introduction of your topic that provides an overview or “warm up”
•    Body (6 to 9 pages): A one page (minimum) analysis of each S.P.E.E.C.H. aspect as it pertains to your topic. You must make clear what aspect/element you are addressing.  The easiest way to do this is by using topic subheadings for each aspect.  You must also use at least 1 credible, quality resource for each S.P.E.E.C.H. aspect. Note that wikipedia, encyclopedic, dictionary sites, or non-university academic sites (such as those for middle and high-school students) are NOT considered quality sites!  I also need to see in-text citations within the body of your paper that let me know what info came from what source.  If you are not familiar with using in-text references to your sources, follow the APA format, which includes the publisher/author and date of publication.  If you know how to properly use in-text citations in other formats (MLA, Chicago, or Turabian), you may use those formats.  From the Purdue OWL website (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl) regarding in-text citations:
“When using APA format, follow the author-date method of in-text citation. This means that the author's last name and the year of publication for the source should appear in the text, for example, (Jones, 1998), and a complete reference (APA citation format) should appear in the reference list at the end of the paper.”
Note:  if you choose to use footnotes, make SURE that you meet page requirements (7 pages minimum….one page for each SPEECH aspect) without the footnotes.  In other words, footnotes do not count toward the minimum page requirements.
•    Conclusion (½ to 1 ½ pages):  Summarize your topic. Feel free include what surprised you about your research, your opinion, etc.
•    A separate page with proper citation format. Go to https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/ for help.
Your project will be a minimum of seven (7) FULL pages and up to twelve (12) pages. Projects must use 12 point, Times New Roman font and regular ONE INCH left/right and top/bottom margins.
If you struggle with writing, please let the folks in the Writing Center help you.  If you struggle with conducting research, please let the library folks help you!!!
Remember, this project is worth 200 points; it carries more weight toward your grade than any other project or exam. Take your time and use complete sentences, correct spelling and punctuation. Your ability to think critically and to conduct thorough research (not just facts and figures) is crucial to your success.
I will grade your SPEECH projects according to the following criteria:
•    Inclusion of all required items as noted above
•    Syntax/grammar, spelling, punctuation.  (While this is not an English class, there is an English pre-requisite course that you either took or tested out of to be in this course)
•    Accuracy/correctness/thoroughness of your coverage of each S.P.E.E.C.H. element
•    Your ability to “dig deep” and think critically about your topic
•    Number of sources, appropriateness of your sources, in-text references to your sources, proper citation format, and the inclusion of functional URL’s that get me DIRECTLY to the source of your info.
Explanation of “S.P.E.E.C.H.”:
For your research project, you will be investigating interrelationships of a topic/region using a geography tool called “S.P.E.E.C.H.” It was created by geography/human ecology instructor, Kristi Drexler. This tool helps us look at geographic issues from multiple perspectives in order to give us a broader, more complete view of a situation/topic/region/event. “S.P.E.E.C.H.” stands for Social, Political, Economic, Environmental, Cultural, and Historical indicators. These indicators (explained in the next paragraph) can be causes, effects, points of view, etc. – as if you were looking at a problem using different shades of sunglasses where you could see different shades of reality from multiple perspectives. You will need an open mind for this project… a mind that thinks critically and considers multiple elements. The project will challenge you to sometimes take the devil’s advocate position, realize how things happen and will happen, and will ask you to use your intelligence to examine/solve real problems.
For any geographic issue or region, we may discuss difference aspects of “S.P.E.E.C.H.” ‘Social’ points of view, causes, effects, etc. could include population, demographics, urbanization, infant mortality, birth, death, health and vaccines, etc.  ‘Political’ can include elected officials, local, national and international policies, laws, family planning legislation, government restrictions and response to national issues, etc.  ‘Environment’ can include biodiversity, ecosystems, landscapes, green space, pollution, farms and crops, climate, carrying capacity, environmental health, etc. ‘Economic’ can include national economies, world markets, banking, investments, and especially in this context, local economies that influence people at the community level.  . ‘Cultural’ aspects can include ethnicity, religion, technology (and access to technology), traditional use of medicinal plants, etc. ‘Historical’ aspects can include past societies, rise of technology, personal history, heritage, historic events and how they’ve shaped the present day, etc.  For your research project, you will be asked to test your critical thinking skills and back and up your opinions and analysis using these different perspectives.
Be sure to ask questions if you have them, but the above information should provide enough guidance to help you produce a solid project.  Late submissions will receive a 20% point deduction for each class period late.

Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:

Policy Review

Public policies set the framework for governance throughout the world. Understanding the impact and consequences of these policies is an important part of understanding public administration. As we will read and discuss in Pal’s book, “policy analysis is a process of multidisciplinary inquiry designed to create, critically assess, and communicate information that is useful in understanding and improving policies” (Dunne, 2008, p. 1 as quoted in Pal, 2013, p. 15).  The purpose of the policy review is to analyze a federal, state, or local policy that is currently in action.

Policy review will be presented in class using Prezi (www.prezi.com), and should be about 10 minutes with five minutes for questions and answers.

Your analysis should address, but is not limited to, the following questions. Use them as guidelines to the content of your project.

1.  Introduction to the policy and what problem is it trying to solve. Additionally, you need to discuss the methodology you will use to develop this analysis.
2.  Detailed description of the policy. This includes:
•    What are the specific policy goals?
•    Which level of government developed the policy? Which level is implementing the solution? Are these two different? If so, why?
•    Major stakeholders involved. What was the initial intent of the policy? Who is expected to benefit from the policy?
•    Is there another group that is actually impacted (positively or negatively?) by the policy? Who (person, agency, organization?) worked to get the policy put into place and why? Who developed the policy?
•    Are there any international actors or influences in the development of this policy?
•    Are there any possible international impacts from this policy?
3.  Discussion of the policy implementation.
•    What are the instruments being used?
•    Who is implementing the policy?
•    What is the role of bureaucracy?
•    What are the costs to implement this program? How many people are served?
4.  Results of the policy
•    How effective has the policy been?
•    What are the limitations to the policy? Are the limitations greater than the successes or vice versa?
•    What would be better direction for the policy? What corrections would you suggest be made to make the policy more effective?
5.  Conclusions

My topic about the War on Drugs policy.

write every point in separate slide, maker sur to be everything clear, short and easy to present.

I attached the paper and the Critical Review of Policy Analysis make sure to review it.

Also I want you to answer this following questions in the presentation:
•    Has is it been any type of awareness to reduce the usage of drugs? If so, what type of awareness or tools had been used?
•    On page 4, there is a statement that reads: “The war on drugs policy has so far demonstrated remarkable transformations in achieving its objectives.” Can you provide an example of a remarkable transformation in achieving these objectives?
- Your analysis concludes the war on drugs is ineffective. The alternatives offered are: decriminalization, de-penalization and regulated access. Do you believe we are headed in this direction, given the recent propositions passed in California?

- One of the findings in this analysis indicates that the U.S. takes a route of criminal prosecution more frequently in its war on drugs. Why do you think that drug use treatment is not more practiced especially considering it is a less expensive route than incarceration?

write the question and the answer in the slide.

This short essay needs to be a minimum of 500 words (not counting references). After reading/watching all of the materials assigned for this week, please respond to the following question:

How should racial inequality in the United States be fought?

This intentionally broad question could be addressed in different ways. You can answer it in terms of specific social/political/economic policies or changes (such as those described by the Platform and Robin Kelley links). Or, you could focus on which kinds of strategies or methods should be used to advance those larger changes (such as those discussed by MLK and Malcolm X).

***You MUST refer to specific points, ideas, claims, or evidence from at least three of the assigned readings/videos from this week when building your answer.

***You also MUST explain why your recommendation is better than some alternative (either from the materials this week or beyond them). If you think militant civil resistance is necessary to dismantle structural racism, explain why other methods are flawed. If you think some form of reparations or wealth redistribution is required, then you could explain why "colorblind" approaches are insufficient for fixing racism in the US., etc...
