Colour is widely considered to have three attributes and these enable the identification and classification of colour (Gage, 1995, 2000; Itten, 1973).
For substance colour and formula colour, these attributes vary somewhat across the literature and in practice. However, they are generally referred to as:
                        Hue
                        Saturation      
                        Tone      
The effects of colour ‘are contingent upon the interactions of simultaneous contrast and complementarity between different hues, tints and tones; and it affects and connects subjects and objects, ‘fills and forms the world’, thereby co-constituting what is given to experience and ‘making possible…sensing and being sensed, knowing and being known’ (Cubitt, as cited in Beyes, 2016).
