Qn. 1

A goal is defined as a target you look forward to attain in time at a specific time whereas a plan is a series of actions undertaken to capture a specified target (Wilson & Michael, 31).

Qn. 2

  1. Moltke’s quote “No plan survives contact with the enemy” means that there is a possibility of plans being thrown out regardless of how well laid they are because the enemy is unpredictable all the same, the enemy does not conform to your desires. To apply this to the civilian business environment, it means that business is full of uncertainties thus, our plans may not be met exactly as programmed because of the unpredictable incidences in the business world (Gallo, 200).
  2. In reference to Moltke’s quote, I will persist that managers and leaders should continue planning. This is because, planning helps to predict possible occurrences in future thus, various activities will be planned in the best possible way hence can minimize the risk of future uncertainties (Wilson & Michael, 56).

Qn. 3

  1. Some of the concerns expressed by the critics of the MBO approach include; the approach being expensive and time consuming. Critics also claim that the approach entails enormous effort. The approach also requires improved skills of management and competences. It is also criticized as being manipulative (Drucker, 70).
  2. Some of the concerns from the critics state that this approach overemphasized on production and did not involve all levels of management. Therefore, to address the concerns of the critics, managers need to involve all levels of management in order to improve performance even as far this approach of management is concerned (Drucker, 78).
  3. One of the companies that is using management by objectives is Hewlett-Packard a computer company.
