  • Gender
  •             Rock music is a genre that demonstrates how men can fully dedicate themselves into the world of music. In most cases, the audience believe that rock music is male dominated because many of its artists are men. The males seem to be the active members in the rock genre because they present their masculinity, which is a major tool of presentation in this genre. According to most of the rock artists, they display their body power and energy while presenting the genre. The men artists show their masculinity power in their music creating a large group of audience. This is the main reason why males outdo the females in this genre, as they are able to fascinate the audience while using their masculinity power.
  •             The other reason that contributes in outdoing the number of female performances in rock music is the tradition of the genre. In the history of early musicians of this genre, it is clear that the males dominated the rock industry having received a strong back up from the lovers of this genre. According to the complain rose by female artists as to why they do not participate with a great passion in the rock music, is that they fail to receive protection covers for their bands. The other reason as to why women fail to contribute much in the genre is that their songs do not receive much media coverage compared to those of men (Robert 48). In most of the media stations, they do not recognize the female heroes who have played a significant role in the development of this genre. Even though there are many women who love listening and attending shows of rock music, recent survey indicates that the males still dominate in the genre.
  •             The young generation has also shown an indication of how the gender issues prevail concerning the issue of rock music. Since in the early years when people started to recognize the existence of rock music, the youth have shown a great interest in the genre. Many of the teenage males could attend shows presented by the rock artists (Starr & Waterman 218). In most cases, their female counterparts could not have permission from their parents to attend many of the rock shows and concerts. According to the views of many parents, the girls had an obligation of learning how to perform domestic cores (Robert). In this view, many of the female teenagers did not get an opportunity to know much about the rock genre as the male teenagers did. Considering the fact that there was an issue of masculinity associated with the rock music, many of the female teenagers failed to have much interest in this genre.
  •             Maintaining of the social order contributed much to the males dominating much in the rock genre. Most of the concerts concerning rock music occurred during the night hours and this issue raised an alarm to the government. The government showed much concern to the issue of maintaining social disorder. Most of the shows occurred at night and they were associated with criminal activities. Most of the young women in the early period of rock music establishment could not like to associate themselves with the crime activities. Parents feared that the young girls would associate themselves with sexual activities outside the context of marriage (Starr & Waterman 209). This made the parents to deny the young girls a chance to attend to many of rock music concerts. Many women associated themselves with the issues of improving cultural and economic status during the establishment of rock music in the early days. The women influenced the young girls to concentrate on important issues relating to development other than thinking of the rock music.
  •            A number of rock artists and bands played a significant role in developing the rock genre. However, in most of the bands that existed in the early times, the issue of gender could be a problem that they needed to figure out. Taking an example of Kansas band, one can be able to understand more about the rock genre and its contribution to the gender issue. The Kansas band exists to date since from the early 1970s. The band has made a significant contribution. While looking back at the bands popularity in this genre, there is clear evidence that the band influenced many young male in having interest in the rock music. The strong team members of the band were an ideal example of how the rock music ought to be successful.
  •             One of the rock music artists who contributed in the establishment of rock music is Chuck Berry (Campbell & Brody 111). Through his albums realized in the late 1980s, Berry made a significant recognition of the rock music especially to the young people. He was a songwriter and a performer for a long period. He also used to play guitar and established himself as one of the greatest rock and roll music artists. However, Berry did not manage to give women a chance to express themselves in his band. He used his boasting personality with large masculine figures to lure the audience. According to Berry, many of the women could not be able to meet the requirements of the audience (Campbell & Brody 112). Berry was an example that showed that women did not have a large role to play in the rock music genre. Despite having a large number of female audiences, Berry did not recognize that women would play a significant role as much as the male did in his music.
  •             Many of the early artists did not give women a chance to learn how to play the guitar. In most of the rock music, playing of the guitar was a compulsory element. Many of the women who tried playing the guitar did not the recognition they deserved from the society. The male artists outweighed the female ones who tried to venture in the rock music. Many responsibilities associated with women in the society, contributed to their failing to engage much in the rock genre as their male counterpart.
  •             Although Berry received many awards due to his contribution in rock music, some of his songs were anti-sexual. Other songs that Berry released were anti-woman. This showed that he did not give women an opportunity to express their desires in his music. According to his views, Berry considered that women would not be able to perform for many hours on the show as men would. Many of the stories concerning the issue of women in stage performance are that some of them fainted while on the stage. This made many of the early male artists not to consider women in their bands. However, many women considered that this was just an issue to exclude them in the performing the rock music.
