  • Conduct research on the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, India, and the general impact of terrorism on tourism.
  •             The attack on November scarred the face of tourism industry in India. The attacks were probably the worst that the city had ever experienced. According to the survey the Indian government conducted concerning the attack, it indicated that the attack lasted for approximately 60 hours. The survey showed that the terrorists conducted meticulous preparation for the attack before performing the act. The terrorists who conducted the attack succeeded in creating an overwhelming confusion to the authorities by employing much terrorism experience (Rabasa, 2009). The number of terrorists who managed to perform the Mumbai attack was ten militants. The Militant used AK-47 guns, low intensity bombs and grenades. The terrorists accomplished their goal of attacking ten targets. The primary targets of the attacks were to hit various major hotels in the city of Mumbai. The secondary targets were to scare the public and cause more panic. Every business had to stop operating especially the hotel industry, which affected tourism in Mumbai.

  •             The tourism industry in India contributes to 5 million visitors every year. This creates a chance of generating more income to the country. The tourism industry in India is one of the major sources of income for the countries expenditure (Rabasa, 2009). Tourism result to more investment opportunities in the whole country. Tourism in India result to infrastructure development creating a room for economic growth.
  • · Critically analyze whether the attack influenced tourism worldwide.
  •             Many of the American and European countries cautioned their citizens to travel to India and the neighboring countries after the attack. The attack also had a positive influence to the tourism sector as a number of tourists travelled to Mumbai in order to witness how the terrorists had done in the city (Kyint, 2009).
  • · Compare and contrast India's experience with the impact on tourism in the United States after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
  •             The terrorism in India was an expected and the authorities were not prepared for such kind of an attack to happen. The terrorism attack that took place in the United States was also unexpected by the concerned authorities. Both countries did not manage to inform their citizens about a possible attack. The attacks in both countries were well planned and organized by experienced terrorists. The difference of the attacks that took place in the two countries is that in the Indian one, terrorists used simple military equipments to conduct the attack. In the terrorism act that took place in United States, the terrorists used bombs and were in a helicopter while conducting the attack.

  • San Francisco Earthquake Fire
  •             This disaster took place back in the year 1906 after a magnitude of 7.8 quakes. The earthquake rambled from San Andreas to the city of San Francisco. After the explosions that formed a lurid tower of smoke. Various fires broke after the explosion and resulted to numerous losses of property and lives. The disaster taught a lesson of reconstruction and the need to set a earthquake research center.
  • Super Tornado Outbreak
  •             The disaster happened after a combination of three weather patterns. The weather patterns formed a backbreaking 148 twisters in an overall of 13 states. Unfortunately, the combination of the weather patterns managed to wreak 15 hours of havoc. About 330 citizens from central and eastern America lost their lives. The disaster was a great lesson to the government of America, which made the introduction of the modern tornado measurement system. From that time, the American government managed to find cash for cyclone preparedness.
  • Bhopal the Union of Carbide Gas Leak
  •             The disaster took place on 1994 in the city of Bhopal in India. The disaster happened after mid-night when a poisonous gas leaked from a pesticide factory. The gas killed at least 4000 local residents on the spot after the leakage and caused more healthy problems that affected a population of about 50000 to 500000 thousand people. The unfortunate issue of the disaster is that more than 100000 people suffer from chronic diseases to date. After the incidence, the government managed to form a body that ought to make sure every industry complies with proper management rules.  
  • The 1952 London smog disaster
  •             The disaster brought heavy smog in London for a period of three months. The whole area of London experienced a high content of moisture that created uncomfortable conditions to the citizens. The disaster resulted to coal combustion and people could not manage to travel by food even for a short distance. This resulted to car use in large extent that caused more emission of various gaseous in the air. The pollution of the combination of the gas resulted to about 12000 deaths mainly children.
