This boy is a six year old boy that comes from a jewish observant home.  He is the last child of three children following two girls.  He is hearing impaired and therefore he is over protected by his family.  He has a good relationship with his family.  However, he is extremely spoiled.  Everything and anything is done for him.  Based on the information above, answer the following questions.

Family Observation

Observe a child throughout the semester on two different settings that are significant to the child. Observe and describe the child’s development and characteristics, his or her interactions with the main caregiver or service provider (e.g., a teacher, a grandmother) and see how the child interacts differently in different settings. Please gather adequate information from the people who interact with the child frequently by either having a face-to-face or phone conversation.
After synthesizing all the information, your report needs to include:

1. Background information
a. Provide background information of the child, his or her development and characteristics, exceptional learning needs, strengths, hobbies and interests.  In what ways the child is developing typically? In was ways the development is delayed, or a risk?
Please discuss the child’s cognitive, physical, communication, social and emotional and adaptive development.  Please describe child’s heath status.

In addition, please describe stressors and support systems the child has. If the child is an ELL, please describe the child’s language development (in the child’s native language and English), supports and barriers for the child’s language development. Describe the characteristics of the settings the child spends much time in. Note the resources and the lack of resources that might affect the child positively and negatively.

2. Note the interactions of the child between him or her and the provider or caregiver. Note aspects of the interactions that affect the child positively or negatively. Does the child enjoy these interactions or not? Why? Are the interactions conducive to gains in child’s cognitive, physical, communication, social and emotional and adaptive development? In which ways? Explain.

3. Summary and Analysis
a. Critically analyze your observations and interviews by using Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory and model. Reflect on the influences of the environment (e.g., people, community, school) that are conducive or not conducive to the child’s development and learning. Note each of the influences present in each of the levels, and explain how they affect the child.

4. Recommendations
a. Recommend how professionals can use the information about the child’s development and characteristics to develop support systems or resources to work with the child in collaboration with family and personnel in community agencies (at least two recommendations for professionals).

b. Develop recommendations for yourself to develop knowledge and skills to work with families (at least two recommendations for yourself).

You are encouraged to attach copies of your interview questions and other documents.
