A Community Empowerment Approach to Addiction in Turkey

The Article, a Community Empowerment Approach to Addiction in Turkey

Summary of the article

The article, a community empowerment approach to addiction in Turkey is both an educative and informative piece giving insights on how the community can be engaged in trying to curb addiction. The article clearly articulates the recommended procedures that should be followed in order to have the community involved at large. The procedures outlined in the article starts by identifying a group of learned individuals who take part in addressing the addiction problem with the victims’ one on one. The other crucial procedure followed is by ensuring maximum utilization of the locally available resources, establishing proper channels of service delivery and redefining the operating systems for ultimate performance. Social relation between the organizers and the community has been priotized for better service delivery. The choice for the location is appropriately selected. The organization is operated in turkey, an area prone with drug addicts hence making an impact is flexible due to readily available subjects. Relevant selection of the local medics is done and this ensures that bridging of the processes will be effective as the locals are well vast with the area. Further to this, open communication between the organizers and the locals is established. The whole process is divided into phases ensuring total adherence in every stage.

My reaction

One of my reaction to this article is how I saw crucial selection of the parties to be involved. The organization begins by reselecting the staff to be involved and also giving them induction to the area. The chosen staff members are further subjected to learning activities to ensure they are well vast in their areas of operation. Adding to this, local personnel are also incorporated into the system. All this shows the magnitude set in order to fight addiction. I conquer with reselecting activity done as this ensures the right people are involved and hence the required way of doing things will be met. Different areas of operation favors different people due to weather change. Incorporating locals into the system allows for comprehensive service delivery as the locals are well vast with their areas operations. Involvement of the local communities and the leadership system officiates the organization making it genuine for people to trust.

My other reaction is the choice of setting up the organization. The organization is carried out in Turkey an area that has low pseudo-science interferences. This ensured low interference in the operation and hence appropriate finding of solutions. Turkey has an open democratic governing system and this offered undisputed opportunity for the organization to be set. Absence of a comparable outpatient facilities made it necessary for the locals to uphold establishment of a local treatment area. Establishing this facilities opened an opportunity for thorough treatment of the victims and formation for basis of contrast in the mode of treatment and diagnosis rendered to the patients. With proper and competitive institution set, appropriate medication would be offered to the patients. Turkey has in the history used corrupted justice system to fight drug abuse. Setting up of the facility would therefore be of great impact to the locals and treatment would be offered effectively and efficiently.

My third observation is on how the program was set to operate. First, necessary proposals are made, this include; identifying representatives from the community(qualified medics), induction meeting amongst them and the community representatives, gathering of information and identifying contact persons. All this processes outlines the efforts in fighting the addiction to its roots. Gathering information regarding the subjects helped in making the necessary treatment plans for the victims from their medical records. I strongly uphold this move as it helps in making the proper diagnosis to the patient and also helps in keeping track of the patient’s recovery journey. The move to have an inductor meeting makes it even more important as friendly working area is established. A friendly working area ensures that no barriers hinders service delivery and a mutual relation is developed between the patients and those treating them. Social interactions at an early age of addiction shortens the recovery process and the victims are able to explain their grievances early enough and a solution established.

My major observation in the article is in how the program was structured. The program is structured in phases whereby all the phases run dependently. Phase one of the program entailed selecting community personnel who would aid in identifying the addicts. After the addict are identified, awareness is created and the treatment plan is made. I strongly agree with this structural organization as it helped in identifying and picking addicts from their dens and rehabilitation process done. The general achievements of the program is that on rehabilitating the victims, they are educated, cautioned and given hope to more life. The victims with employability skills are introduced to the labor market where they can make life out of their hard work. Local government is included in the process in the verge to salvage the victims.

This particular article got the best of me in the way it has highlighted the processes an addict can be salvaged. It has sharpened my mind in that I have learnt distinctive processes adverse victims should be taken through. In my journey to console and motivate other veterans, I am in a position to comprehensively explain to the veterans the possible ways to deal with addicts, the facilities to take them to and the care they might be in need of. The article has also expanded my thinking by outlining the necessary bodies that should be involved as one walks through addiction. The article has motivated me into having hope for a better future after addiction as it has outlined of victims recovering and securing jobs. Through the article, I have learnt the impact and importance of non-governmental organizations in a community. The article has also inducted me with the necessary factors and considerations I should put in place should I think of starting a program to help other people.

In conclusion, I would strongly recommend victims of addiction to read the article as it has comprehensively outlined the relation of the victims to their families and to the community at large. The article has put to light the importance of cordial relation amongst various bodies and the victims of addiction. The article enlightens one against the myths and misconception about addiction and gives hope of a successful recovery journey from addiction. The article has also outlined the role of every individual in the community. The article has strongly upheld the concept of being a brother’s keeper by outlining the recommended steps to take when dealing with a victim of addiction.
