Discussion # 1

Pursuing an Advanced Practice Major will help me in enhancing my career and opening up new opportunities in those positions that require more experience and advanced knowledge. The advancement in nursing practice will also go a long way in making sure that I achieve professional longevity. This will provide an opportunity for achieving intellectual fulfillment and an altruistic sense as I have the chance to actively assist other people in obtaining optimal wellbeing.

Advanced Practitioner Nurse has focuses in long-term and preventive healthcare in different settings that include long-term care, acute care and primary care. The emphasis of the role is disease prevention, health promotion and counseling so as to guide patients in making lifestyle and positive health choices (Hamric et al.2013). The person may also undertake the role of an Academic Nurse Practitioner where they can serve as educators. There is a long history of Family Nurse Practitioners’ engagement with care and assisting them in understanding health conditions and even practical measures through which can improve their health. They assist patients in management of chronic and acute illnesses carry out diagnostic procedures, tests and physical exam. In order for Family Nursing Practitioner to improve patient’s outcomes, they should integrate evidence based practice as a reliable use of the existing best evidence while deciding on patient care. This is because it allows for problem solving in clinical issues through integration of logical search for important appraisal of the major relevant evidence in answering questions (McCleery et al. 2014).

In order for a Nurse Practitioner to be successful, they should have unique traits and skills that endear them to nursing profession. One should be compassionate which will draw them to be caring, have communication skills that will enable them to critically listen and speak effectively and be solidly ethical.  They should also have attention to details and have a commitment to develop (Hamric et al.2013).
