Public health interventions

Impact of the intervention

Public health interventions are known to be very effective and great approaches of impacting a society both in health social and economic status. Overdose prevention intervention is in itself a preventive intervention which offers the most effective methods of overdose prevention. In this regard, the applied project will be used to impact health, economic status and knowledge of the global society on a long-term horizon and society perspective. It will enhance greatly the fiscal sustainability of proper drug usage for better health results. On the other hand the applied project has addressed the 10 Essential Public Health Services which are essential in defining assessing and solving a health problem at public level. They include monitoring of the health status of a community, investigating and diagnosing the health issues, educating, mobilizing, developing policies, enforcing laws, linking people assuring competence, assessing the effectiveness and research. The section will therefore show how the applied program has tacked each of the health services and impact it shall bring to the society.

First, the program will offer a cost effective intervention of solving the alarming health issue of overdose and substance abuse. Prevention is better than cure (Béland, 2010).  This is a common saying which proposes that preventive measures should take the lead in handling any healthcare issue. Comparing the cost of treatment, conventional protocols and other alternative interventions, the prevention interventions proves to be the most cost effective. Interventions such as those of rehabilitation are often very expensive when trying to get people off from addition and other consequences of overdose and substance abuse. The society shall feel the impact of economic constrain offload soon after the program is implemented.

The applied program will also reduce the number of hospitalization and deaths that result from overdose. For instance, opioid overdose causes respiratory depression and even death to the user. It affects the part of the brain that is tasked to regulate breathing. On a worldwide basis, overdose of opioid causes 69000 deaths each year and 15 million people get to suffer the effect of opioid dependence. Such a tragic effect would be combated mainly through an overdose prevention intervention program. By providing the most effective methods of overcoming drug addiction and dependence, great results will be realized in collaboration with other sectors such as rehabilitation centers and other public health administrators.

Lastly, the project is intended to impact the lifestyle of the society which includes taking healthy diets, abstinence from drug abuse and overdose intake and exercise among other habits. This is based from the fact that a healthy lifestyle is usually the core driver towards making sound decisions. The project will challenge the knowledge of the effects of overdose and offer preventive measures. In addition, the project shall impact the society to adopt policies that shall be recommended in terms of drug intake and prescription.

The intervention program been designed to address all the 10 essential public health services right from the planning to the implementation. First it was able to monitor the health status of the global and regional population to realize that many deaths and hospitalizations are cause by overdose intake. A diagnosis of the issue is also considered whereby overdose was investigated in a sample community as a representative of the global scope. During the intervention, the program is fully designed to educate the participants and the members of the society on the need to embrace the preventive methods that would used to curb overdose and its effects. On this knot, the program is intended to stimulate people’s minds so that they can awaken and see the need to prevent overdose intake.

Through publications of the project, the public shall be mobilized as the proposed methods can be embraced by the majority. This will win the favor of the majority who will go ahead and propose the adoption of policies and plans that will help in supporting individuals who are struggling in substance abuse and overdose intake. The project has also purposed to lower the intervention to personal level. People who shall need special assistance shall be catered for by being offered with specialized care. Once the policies are made, the project is designed to pursue the enforcement of the regulations that shall be made (Béland, 2010). For instance, when a doctor fails to prescribe a given dosage correctly, the law shall hold him/her accountable.

The public also shall be assured of the intervention’s competency by earning credibility from the local state and federal healthcare agencies. This will create confidence in the public that all the proposed methods of overdose prevention are safe and reliable to use. Once the methods are fully adopted, the project team is purposing to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention program by analyzing the number of hospitalization and deaths that result from overdose intake. Lastly, the outcome of the intervention program will attract new insights that will lead the project team members to think of a new venture to research deeper on other health problems (Béland, 2010).
