Paper instructions:

The term paper will consist of a literature review of peer-reviewed published reports of a relevant topic in environmental/occupational epidemiology.  It should evaluate the observed relationship between hypothesized exposure(s) and some health outcome.  Areas of review must be approved by the instructor and should consist of a detailed discussion of a current or past issue of significant public health or occupational importance.  If the topic is of a controversial nature, the bases of both sides of the controversy should be addressed.  Papers should be typed and should include appropriate citations.  The majority of the citations should be within the last 10 years unless approved by the instructor.  No more than 20% of the citations in the reference section may be from web pages, Wikipedia not acceptable (i.e. ≥ 80% should be from refereed journals).  References to original research is preferred over review papers.  The length should be approx. 15-20 double spaced pages with 1” margins (font=12 pt) and must be submitted via Canvas in electronic form as .DOC or .DOCX (i.e. no PDFs).  The term paper must include an appendix which contains a copy of the first page of each paper cited in the body of the term paper.  Use of subheadings in the term paper is highly encouraged.  (Note:  term papers will be submitted to internet services to evaluate potential for plagiarism).
