Article Review Assignment Requirements

Students should determine two disciplines potentially related to their potential research problem.  For each of the two disciplines, students will locate and evaluate two sources or articles (ALL peer-reviewed, and all sources should be published in the last 10 years. This means there will be a total of four sources or articles reviewed in the assignment:
The Article Review Assignment should include the following elements.  

1. Title Page

Include your name, class name with section number, professor name, date, and assignment name

2. Research Problem Statement: 
The problem statement should be clear, define the scope of the problem, and include context explaining why it is important to investigate the problem.  Refer to pages 265 - 268 of Chapter 10 in the Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies text for examples of research problem statements.

3. Discipline: HEALTH; Peer-Reviewed Source

Bibliographical Information: Include a full correctly-formatted APA reference of the source
Research Methods: Identify and explain the strategies the author(s) used in their research (examples: literature search, surveys, controlled experiments, observation, and interviews)
Evidence: Explain if and how the author supports ideas and claims presented in the article or study and the types of evidence included
Results: Identify and explain what information or conclusions the author(s) found as a result of this study
Relevance: Explain how this source connects to your potential research problem and how you would use it in your research paper

7. Data Management Table (Attached in additional materials in students example)

One organizational technique suggested in the textbook is the data management chart. Using the example on page 381, create and complete a table for the four sources or articles you reviewed in this assignment.  The table columns should include the following labels (information inside the parentheses is to provide guidance and should not be included with the column label):

Discipline Consulted (from which disciplinary perspective do the points or insights come?)
Title of the Source or Article (what is the full title of the source?)
Author of the Source or Article (what is the full name of the author of the source?)
The Focus of the Insight (what is the important point(s) or insight(s) you might use from the source to support your research?)
Evaluation of the Insight (how useful is the insight to your research?)
