Miscommunication

Miscommunication

An example of miscommunication in my personal life happened while I was working in a small firm. I was exchanging an email with customer who wanted to get full information about an order that he had placed. After the processing of the order he wanted some changes to be made and so I passed incomplete details about the changes to the person involved. Due to lack of clear understanding the, the order was sent without all the required changes.

After the customer received the order, he became very angry and expressed his disappointment. After I carried out an investigation on the same, I realized the miscommunication regarding his request. The product has to be returned since it did not match what the customer wanted. A new order was processed but this time with no charge and I had to bear the blame for this mistake. This represented a case of miscommunication that resulted to results other than expected by the firm and the customer.

Effective communication involves proper writing skills that will pass on the appropriate and the intended in formation, and this requires avoiding omission of important details in the process. There is a need to acknowledge the problems arising from flawed writing and responding to it in a organized manner (Gibbons & Farr, 1998). If a person fails to communicate in way that is meaningful and clear, their good works will be valueless. This is because ineffective communication can lead to unintended consequences (Gibbons & Farr, 1998). In the above case, effective communication should have ensured that the details required by the customer in terms of changes in the order are captured. The processing of the order could have been done correctly.
