Cultural communication

COMMUNICATION

Cultural communication refers to the way communicate culturally. This communication happens between members of the community in exchanging any information. Cross-culture communication is challenging due to different culture rules. This is more challenging to multinational communication (Michelle 2003). One of the greatest challenges in this type of communication is that we all have different expectations and fear of misunderstanding one another or even being judged by other people.  Culture therefore is one of the influences which influence the way people approach difficulties and the way they contribute in the community and in the groups.

Various communication styles

Different people in different cultures communicate differently. Language is one of the major aspects of communication style as different cultures uses different words and expressions differently. Non-verbal communication is valued and used differently by different cultures where different facial expressions, individual distance, gestures and even sense of time. Different norms among the varying cultures may lead to misunderstanding (Michelle 2003).

Different attitudes and approaches

Different cultures have different attitudes towards conflicts and disclosure with different approaches towards decision making techniques, completion of tasks and knowing. Misunderstanding and miscommunication in cultural communication occurs once people fail to learn and accept the diversity in the cultural set-up (Michelle 2003).

Respecting cultural diversity

For cultural communication to be effective, people ought to learn and appreciate other people’s culture. Knowing how differently communication skills are applied to different cultures reveals the deeper philosophies which create an image of the world and its provision. Communication with different people helps to enrich our lives and people are able to challenge one another hence they are able to improve our world and society.
