  • An Examination of Publication Bias in an International Journal of Information Technology in Education
  •             The authors of the article demonstrate the relationship between the information technology in the sector of education and the publication bias of an international per reviewed journal. The authors of the article indicate that publication bias in the field of information technology especially in education exists. In the article, all the four authors make their conclusion after reviewing information from other articles that existed within the period that falls between the years 1998 to 2004.
  •             The definition of publication bias according to the article is the publishers have the tendency of producing articles that might appear significant. The article indicates that there exists a publication bias referred to, as “File drawer significance” exists in literature (Liu, Aberasturi, Axtell & Richmond, 2007). The author’s explanation in relation to this type of bias in literature is that studies that hold no significant results have a high probability of failing to be published. According to the authors, there is a high chance of publishing literature articles that have significance results because they gain more acceptances regardless of their quality.
  •             On the more about literature and its effect on technology on education, the article illustrates that there is another bias known as “File drawer effect Size” (Liu, en tal., 2007). This bias indicates that the studies, which have a small effect size, have the probability of failing to acquire a large acceptance from viewers. The authors explain the sources of publication bias in two dimensions. The first one is editorial bias where the authors indicate it occurs when publishers fail to reject non-significant studies. The other one is the researchers’ bias where the authors indicate that it occurs when the researchers fail to submit non-significant studies even if the publishers are ready (Liu, en tal., 2007).  In this article, the authors’ emphasis on illustrating that there were unable to find out the evidence for editorial publication bias in the journal they were referring.

  •             The journal chosen in the qualitative analysis is one called ‘An analysis of pre-service teachers engineering design problems (Liu, Aberasturi , & Richmond, 2007). It talks about the numerous advances that have come up in the field of engineering. There has been an argent need to improve the quality of education and produce qualified engineers. This has called on the existing education system to transform by incorporating modern technology. Engineering teachers and lecturers to facilitate this move have launched various programs. The article holds first priority validation in moving toward ICT integrated mode of learning (Liu, Aberasturi , & Richmond, 2007).
  •             The article further tries to defines the entire process of technology integration thereby drawing margins between occasional usage if technology and integration of ICT in the instructional system. The analysis is quality based on a number of issues well evident in the journal. Crucial points arguing the topic out are well projected (Liu, Aberasturi , & Richmond, 2007). The journal outlines the need to incorporate technology in the education sector. Some of the merits that critics mention in the journal include improved quality of education.
  •             Standards of gathering are significant in information collection as they influence the quality of data gathered. The journal has quality informed not biased or inclined to specific views. The sources used in gathering and reporting determine Quality information (Liu, Aberasturi, & Richmond, 2007). For instance, in this article the findings listed were determined by the responses provided by interviewing tutors on the ways to improve quality of engineering courses. The students were equally sort on things they thought could improve on. All these steps were extremely crucial for students to be successful in securing their courses now and in the near future.
