Mental toughness lacks conceptual clarity and the question of whether or not such a nebulous concept can be reliably measured while capturing the essence of the perceived differences in perspective between the coach and athlete remains. The goal of this assignment is to engage in qualitative data collection and analysis by using a semi-structured interview designed to assess Mental Toughness through the eyes of the coach and athlete. You are required to interview 3 athletes and 3 coaches 

Step 1 (25pts).You are being asked to interview 3 coaches. These coaches can be JU coaches, but do NOT have to be. I would prefer that the coaches you interview be collegiate level or above (semi-professional, professional or as discussed in class folks in leadership positions). Your task is to use the included interview guide to explore each coach's perspective on Mental Toughness. 

After completing your interview, please transcribe the responses of your coaches using the headings provided on the interview guide and upload them along with your assignment to Blackboard.

Your assignment is to write a detailed summary of your interviews (approx.. 3 pages) that captures the trends and insights across your interviews and connect these to your readings throughout the term. Lastly, I would like for you to provide a definition of Mental Toughness that incorporates your personal perspective and takes into account the definitions provided by the coaches you have interviewed.

Step 3 (50pts).This step is an extension of Step 1 and Step 2 where you were asked to interview three coaches and three athletes. This step requires you to write a detailed 3-5-page integrative summary and comparative analysis of your interviews that captures the similarities and differences in perspectives between the coaches and athletes that you have interviewed. In other words, what aspects of Mental Toughness were shared or agreed upon by the athletes and coaches and what aspects were different? Please be sure to describe, in your opinion, the factors that may have influenced the differences in perspective between the athletes and coaches. How do these similarities and differences relate to the literature. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR TEXT, and READINGS (i.e., gucciardi Semi structured interview.pdf ). Identify and describe several strategies that can be used to help develop mental toughness in these athletes.  Lastly, I would like for you to refine and provide a definition of Mental Toughness that incorporates your personal perspective and takes into account the definitions provided by the athletes and coaches that you have interviewed; clearly identify how your definition has evolved as a result of your coach and athlete interviews
