Benjamin Franklin, upon leaving the Constitutional Convention, was asked what type of government the framers had created.  He reportedly replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”  Republics are representative democracies, meaning we elect others to make decisions on our behalf.  In this part of the semester we explored ways in which (1) public opinion, (2) political parties, (3) interest groups, and (4) campaigns and elections link citizens to government. 

For this essay, evaluate how well we are/are not connected to government. Use two of the four linkages listed above in your discussion.  Be sure to address the ways in which the political process makes the links more viable, as well as the ways in which the political process may distort the links.
