From the administration of George Washington (1789-97) through the 1832 Nullification Crisis, America′s leading statesmen worked to establish, refine, and preserve their compound constitutional republic as they understood it. Part of that enterprise involved working out the meaning of the Constitution. Drawing liberally-yet-intelligently from your assigned readings in Weeks 3-4, citing specific evidence from those assigned readings (i.e. brief and direct quotations used to support your own words), and in no more than SIX paragraphs, please explain how those leading statesmen (you need not address all of them) understood the U.S. Constitution of 1787, including the Bill of Rights, and what they hoped to achieve by making the arguments and/or taking the actions they did.
