Students will choose three (3) of these documents and describe how they shed new light on, or made you rethink a historical theme in a different way.  In other words, how did they make you view history differently.  Be sure to thoroughly discuss each document, and explain why or how it affected your understanding of that historic event.  The paper should be short and to the point (around 2 pages/roughly 500 words).  Ideally, the three documents should relate to one particular historical theme.  Historical themes can be either broad or specific.  Some themes that could work for this assignment are: The African American Experience American Foreign Policy American Imperialism American Politics Women's Role in American Society Minorities in America Growth of the State Economic History These are but a few suggestions, and are certainly not the only ones that would work.  If you have concerns regarding a specific theme, or are confused about the assignment, feel free to e-mail the instructor.
