Choose one of the three essay prompts (see below) for your Primary Source Analysis #2. Each prompt tells you to choose at least 3 primary sources from specific folders. Select 3 sources that will help answer the question and analyze (mandatory workshop slides ). You will have to read several before you decide which 3 provide the best evidence. Find at LEAST 5 specific examples (evidence) that answer the essay question. Submit the following: For each example, indicate which primary source the example came from For each example how it answers the essay prompt/question. How much evidence and how strong your evidence is (relevance and logic) will determine your grade Create a thesis statement (answer to the essay question) based on your examples (evidence). Remember a thesis does 2 things: names a topic & makes a historically significant argument or claim about the topic. How well you summarize and explain your thesis based on your evidence will determine your grade Submit answers by clicking on ″Submit Assignment″ (top right corner of this page) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prompt #1: The American Revolution is, in American memory, understood as conflict between colonial subjects and the British Empire. Yet, this celebratory story of the America′s origins, whether intentional or not, ignores neglects the scope of the war. Both Indians and African slaves were pulled into the conflict, with each having to navigate a conflict, which by all accounts, was a civil war between British subjects. Use at least 5 specific examples from at least 3 primary sources from Folder 13 to answer and analyze the following question Choose two of the four groups: 1) British Loyalists, 2) American Patriots, 3) Indians and 4) African slaves. Answer the following question for the two groups you have chosen: In what ways did the Revolution present both new challenges, but also new opportunities for everyone living in colonial British America? How did groups with such diverse individual interests navigate the war and come to a decision about their best course of action and why? *Please be aware that the beginning of each document contains annotation (historical context). This is not a part of the actual document. Prompt #2: As Anglo Americans pushed west onto Indian lands, white settlers and Indians ran headlong into conflict with each other. Each saw the world, themselves and each other in very different ways. These differences were cultural, economic, and political and would eventually lead to wars, massacres, and removal. Use at least 5 specific examples from at least 3 primary sources from Folder 15 and Folder 16 to answer and analyze the following question: Explain which TWO of the following areas impacted White-Indian relations the MOST: 1) Land (economic), 2) identity (culture), or 3) governing system (politics). And in what ways did these two areas influence how both white settlers and Indians responded to their growing conflicts? *Please be aware that the beginning of each document contains annotation (historical context). This is not a part of the actual document. Prompt #3: The Market Revolution of the early 19th century fundamentally changed American society and culture. As with any major economic shift, moving to a market oriented economic system based on the selling and buying of consumable goods, created a rise in the standard of living, but also catalyzed social upheavals & dislocations. In the early 19th century, this manifested in controversial social issues like immigration and gender relations. It raised questions and conflicts over who should be considered American and who should be granted full rights and freedoms in the fledgling American nation. Use at least 5 specific examples from at least 3 primary sources from Folder 18 and Folder 19 to answer and analyze the following question: In what ways did both Anglo American women and immigrants challenge who could be considered an American with full rights and freedoms? What was the basis of their claims to freedom? And what was the basis of opposition to their claims?
