The course readings have presented you with the difficulties and complexities involved in handling the mentally ill from a law enforcement perspective.  For this assignment you will be assuming the role of a Police Chief in a medium sized, well funded city.  

The City Manager has recently watched a news cast where Houston Police were having some success with a new program dealing with how to best handle mentally ill persons. As a result, she has asked to come up with a plan to improve the way your department handles and interacts with mentally ill subjects.

write a 2 - 3 page paper (double spaced, 12 font) outlining your plan.  Include what programs, if any, that you would implement; what resources you would seek to obtain; who you would want to collaborate with; and any other ideas that you feel would be beneficial to your goal.
