Questions about Interest Rates You Were Afraid To Ask

Questions We Can Help You To Answer

Paper instructions:

Start by reading an article entitled "9 Questions about Interest Rates You Were Afraid To Ask". I hope you're not actually afraid to ask any questions in this class, but also that this article helps you understand our recent U.S. context a bit better: http://www.vox.com/2015/9/16/9340469/federal-reserve-rate-decision

Next, I'd like you to do some internet research on your own. There are a lot of opinion pieces written in the news about what the Fed should do at their June meeting. Some economists think that the FOMC should raise rates, while others think that would be a bad idea. I'd like you to find one article on each side of this debate. Please make sure that your articles are about what should be done at the FOMC's June 2017 meeting, not an earlier one!

Explain clearly how the Federal Reserve’s policy tools are able to influence the economy. Then provide links to the two articles you found about what the FOMC should do at their June meeting and summarize the argument in each of the articles. Finally, explain which article you found most convincing and why. Make sure you utilize the material from this unit of the course when you make your case
