Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer

Newspaper: Globe and Mail or Toronto Star

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Define contemporary print processes, and how they are used.

2. Analyze the relationship between how a printed item appears, how it was made, and what it is trying to communicate.

3. Show an understanding of how print processes are intertwined with social, cultural, and economic forces.

PROJECT OUTLINE

The purpose of a case study is to use your research to come up with a well developed opinion on a particular topic, and use your design skills to present it in a combination of words and pictures. The goal is to be concise and clear.

Your case study must answer these questions:

Product – what object are you looking at?

Structure/Material - how is it made? what is it made of?

Context - where is this seen? What does the place where it will be seen require the product to do?

Intent/Purpose - Why was it made the way that it was made? Does the form of the object say something about the company that made it, and about the people they want to buy it?

Sources – where are you getting your information from?

Use a combination of words and pictures. Aim for up to about 5 pages of material and at most 500-700 words, but don't use more words than you need. Use an MLA citations list for your Sources. You can create this using http://www.citethisforme.com (Links to an external site.) and selecting MLA as the citation style.

GUIDELINES

As it’s a pdf digital submission, you’re free to work in full colour, but save your pdf for screen viewing only – there’s no need for the additional resolution in a print-ready pdf. Format and page size is up to you, as long as it’s easily readable on screen.
