Airline simulation is a competitive business game designed to simulate a realistic management situation and give the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to think through the implications of applying the knowledge and skills acquired through the taught elements of the course. You engage in the business game as a group. You will need to set a strategy for your company within the competitive industry and make decisions about all aspects of the business in order to implement the strategy effectively.  Over successive periods in the game you monitor the performance of your own business and the competition, aligning and adjusting your strategic and tactical decisions accordingly.
You will write an individual report of 3000 words on the performance of your company in the simulation, showing how theory which you have learnt on the course was demonstrated both in your management of your business and in the way the other companies in your industry competed.  Some specific questions will be provided for you to address and you will also have the opportunity to highlight other areas of your own choice.  Individual reports must be fully supported by directly relevant quality academic sources in demonstrating the integration between theory and practice.

The performance of the airline will depend on how effectively the Management Team applies theory in practice to support critical analysis and evaluation in context leading to informed problem solving, identification of opportunities and decision making. You will need to draw extensively on theories and techniques from your MBA toolkit through taught units, for example, including:

•    Performance management
•    Operations Management
•    Finance

The individual report demands in-depth critical analysis and evaluation of theory in practice leading to clear conclusions and feasible recommendations.  You will write an individual report of 3000 words on the effectiveness of the performance of the airline in the simulation, showing how theory which you have learnt on the course was demonstrated both in the management of your business and in the way the players in your industry competed.  This must be a professionally written and presented business report clearly and concisely communicating your analysis, conclusions and recommendations through the integration of theory and practice.
