Press Kit Plan Summary: This information also is included in a typical client/boss Briefing. Although your choice is a real client with a fictitious scenario (example: you will launch a product that already is in the market), you will conduct research on your actual selected topic and a similar company/product in the field to gain an understanding of relevant internal and external issues and get inside the product/service and how it works. When your research is complete, you will develop your plan of attack by answering the following and by writing in the third person a complete paragraph for each of a-c and just listing the items in d:
• Delineate an audience appropriate for this product and its demographic and geographic attributes. Intuitively, identify your audience’s demographic attributes, where these individuals live, and any psychographic interests or perspectives they may hold. One paragraph only.
• Identify audience needs, wants and concerns/interests, as applicable. One paragraph only.
• Identify the action you want your audience to do, think or know as a result of your communication (NOT how you will attract them, because that implementation information for your campaign). For example, if your objective states “To educate an audience...” then the action would be that your “audience should know about....(could be lots of things.) Even though the objective statement is quite broad, the action would be more detailed). One paragraph only.
• In a fourth paragraph, please start the paragraph with the words: “This press kit will include the following:” and then list with numbers the individual items you will include in your press kit. You will include as number one, your topic description/summary (which will be combined into one document with one title and is your short communications plan), press release about your product launch (for example) as number two, and so on.
Homework assignments and final project materials will be reviewed by me and returned to you with comments, suggestions, etc. Keep editing multiple times. This is what develops good writing. Once you have received comments on a homework assignment, you may proceed to develop an added item for your press kit.
Towards the end of the semester and after you have submitted and rewritten your Briefing’s Description and Summary documents at least twice, you will combine them into one document placing the description paragraphs first, followed by the summary paragraphs without any sub- heads. This document will be included in the final submissions in your press kit, and will be titled simply: “Your Company” Briefing or, for example, Sony Electronics Briefing.
A briefing document might continue on with the actual messages and tactics/programs you will implement to achieve your objectives with your audience. Please do not include this information.
Briefing documents are never is revealed to the media or included in a press kit. In this case, it is just for me and so I have an idea of the number and types of items you included in your press kit.
