In the retail world, packaging is everything

Questions We Can Help You To Answer

Paper instructions:

In the retail world, packaging is everything, so let’s make sure ours is unique, strategic and professional. Let’s begin to build our brand with a s bio.

Instructions
STEP 1 – RESEARCH:
Begin your market survey by collecting a sample of job descriptions from the internet for positions you would like to hold. Cast a wide net. You can start with a Google search, visit employment websites, such as:

FIDM’s Career Center webpage for job listings - http://fidm.edu/resources/career-center
Indeed – http://www.indeed.com
Monster – http://www.monster.com
HotJobs – http://www.hotjobs.com
Vault – http://www.vault.com
FashionJobs – http://www.fashionjobs.com
or the website of a specific company and access the positions listed:
True Religion Jeans – http://www.truereligionbrandjeans.com
LVMH - http://www.lvmh.com
Forever 21 - http://www.forever21.com

If you are currently employed, write down or copy your job description, skills, and duties. Or you can search for a comparable position at another company. Next, access your current resume.  Then, survey the skills listed in RESUME Guide provided by FIDM’s Career Center. Finally, refer to the sample student bios. Once you have compiled all these materials, you have completed the research stage of the process.

STEP 2 – ANALYZE:
Now that you have all the necessary materials, the next stage is to analyze and compare your unique skills, education and experience with your research sources. Begin to select and focus the details you wish to highlight so that they strategically match the needs, terminology and formats of the documents and sources you researched. Highlight and circle key words and skills you find repeated in the job descriptions, FIDM’s guidelines and the bio samples. What do you think is important? What hard and soft skills, education, experience, coursework, software programs match your abilities? So far, you have already applied key skills and frameworks you’ll be using throughout your academic and professional career – research, marketing, analysis, strategy and communication.

STEP 3 – PRESENT:
Using the student bio samples and rubrics as guides, write your own bio. Limit it the length to 150 words and try to highlight the education, skills, experience and career goals you believe will match and align with the professional market. Revise and edit as necessary. Read it aloud to yourself and some friends to “hear” how it sounds. Does it describe your strengths? Does it present and position your unique value and qualifications to the market? Use the rubric and grade yourself with the criteria listed. What score would you give yourself?
