1. Define classic and masterpiece. Then choose a Western and Non-Western work of literature that qualifies for this definition. You may use any mode of literature from epic to novel, short story or poem or compare a Western classic with a non-Western classic or masterpiece. This can be two epics, poems, novels or short stories.
   
   2. Construct at least a five-paragraph essay beginning with an introduction and thesis statement about the main idea of your work. Provide context and background information in your introduction. Use supporting research and critical analysis in your body paragraphs. Avoid plot summary.
   
   3. After you select a primary source selection of an epic, novel, short story or poem, RESEARCH by finding at least two scholarly articles on the literature you chose and integrate what you learned from them in your essay. Try the SPC Library data base or Google Scholar. Select primary source examples from the literature in addition to secondary sources from scholarly articles.
   
   4. Cite the sources of your researched interpretations. You must find and identify at least two research sources beyond your textbook. You may also cite the text and research links provided in this module, but be sure to find and cite at least one source beyond what you are provided.
