(You are welcome to use one of your evaluations from Week Four, Evaluation Discussions #1 or #2, as part of this assignment.)

Assignment:

Reading:
1. Chapter 52, Evaluating Sources.
(In Chapter 52, pay special attention to the questions and instructions on pgs. 416-417 and 420-421. Actually, in order to write a successful Annotated Bibliography, it is important that you study the entire chapter carefully. In addition to ansewring CRAPP test questions, put each of your 5 sources to the test of the questions and instructions throughout the chapter.)
2. All the Week Four Tutorials
3. Sample Annotated Bibliographies
4. MLA Formatting (See Sample Paper at the end of the the MLA chapters in Rules for Writers.)

Pre-writing/taking notes:
This is a formal assignment. I suggest using pre-writing techniques and writing a draft. Use the  questions on the CRAPP Worksheet to evaluate your sources. Write down you answers in your Reseacrh Log.
For your formal entries, though, do not use the Worksheet question and answer format. An Annotated Bibliography is written in paragraph form using carefully crafted prose, as with any other academic work. (See the sample Annotated Bibliographies.)

Instructions:
For this assignment you will compile an annotated document evaluating several potential sources. These may include academic journals, professional journals and magazines, books, organization literature, government reports, video, documentaries, websites, etc.
Include at least one book, one website and one peer-reviewed, scholarly article.

Try to spend a one half a page on each article, providing information in the following areas:
•    brief summary
•    reliability/validity of the article
•    relation to ideas in other sources
•    implications for your research
Present your information as a document for an imagined researcher following in your footsteps. Put your name, the date, and the tentative research question or title written up at the top of the page. Use headings and subheadings, bullets or numbering if needed.  List the entries in proper MLA bibliographic form. Alphabetize the bibliography as for "Works Cited."
The whole annotated bibliography is double-spaced and alphabetized. Don’t add extra spaces between entries.
You should give your annotated bibliography a real title. Try something like this: Ma Rainey’s Blues and Feminism: An Annotated Bibliography.

Notes:
Though you are required to turn in only a few source entries for this assignment, I highly recommend annotating all the sources you are considering. This is a part of  the research process and you will be asked to provide this type of bibliography in many academic situations. (In many disciplines, this is known as a Review of the Literature.)

This assignment is for you: It is an important part of your research materials. This bibliography will be instrumental in organizing your paper later on. Use it. You will be able to quickly review and decide how you will use each source. It can also spark new ideas and connections when you get stuck.
