Conducting a library search

Conducting a library search

Performing a search on Scholarly database can be very hard at first.  First I try to assess the list of the main key words that are connected to the topic I am evaluating, and then I use the Boolean operations and combine the keywords that I think may bring the best results.  For this assignment, I chose a subject that is connected to surgery but I decided to have a divergent database for this specific discussion. The main concern and the keywords during the surgery was the prevention of hypothermia in patients during the operation process.  Hyperthermia in the perioperative period is seen at the rate of 50-90% and it is known as the hub temperature which is less than 36 degrees Celsius. (Boudah, 2011)

During the surgeries that consume a lot of time, there are times that the surgeons put more effort to sustain the patient under the hub temperatures within the normal limits. The articles that were yield by the research were the prevention of perioperative hypothermia in surgery and perioperative thermoregulation and the review of temperature. Temperature review on the surgery process mainly depends on the patient’s age. With the idea in mind, either core or near- hub temperature can be used in perioperative time after a risk under the benefits review has been conducted. Its prevention can be conducted by determining the patients’ thermal comfort levels (Boudah, 2011).

On how I narrowed my search was that I got an understanding of the basic science of the thermal control, the techniques of hypothermia in the perioperative process and the provision of personal control in giving the anesthesia care.  Therefore I got the article on the risk factors where the risk factors on the hyperthermia according to any surgery process should be recognized.  They include patients with trauma or those who have fluid budges. The results from the search confirm that hyperthermia is a normal happening on the unarmed surgical patient and is connected by morbidity and death. Thus the evaluation of the body temperatures to control hyperthermia through the active warming control methods is the features of preventing its complications (Boudah, 2011).
