You will then organize your work and present it to the class in one of several forms: an essay, a PowerPoint, a tri fold board/poster board, or a mobile or sculpture.

Requirements:
Forms
Essay-at least four pages
Font: Size 12 Font, Times New Roman, double spaced
Format: MLA with in-text citations
At Least 4 Reputable Sources (one encyclopedia, two websites, and a primary source)
Appendix of images
Works Cited Page*

Project Timeline and Steps

Step 1:
Choose a topic to write about; you must get approval from me. Note that I may require you to pick a new topic if your topic is not appropriate for school. In addition, I would like you to stay away from writing about modern politicians as well since it is difficult to write about them in a non-biased way. Remember that the tone of this project, as a research project, should be entirely objective--that means that you should talk about the facts and not add your personal opinions.
Note that your topic should be neither too broad nor too specific.
Example of a topic that is too broad: Impressionist Artists
Example of a better, more specific topic: The artistic style of Vincent Van Gogh
Example of a topic that is too broad: World War II
Example of a better, more specific topic: The Attack on Pearl Harbor
Example of topic that is too broad: The history of the fashion industry
Example of a better, more specific topic: The New York City fashion industry from 1980-present
Fill out the project proposal

Step 2:
Conduct research. You will do the following:
Find reputable sources that meet the following requirements and add what the citations should be.
Remember, if you can’t find your exact topic in an online encyclopedia or book, look up related terms.
Fill out the following form to keep track of your sites and citations.

Note: I am not going to require you to cite pictures other than your primary source.

Step 3: Gather your quotes and facts.
Collect your information in the chart; make sure to include quotation marks and in-text citations. I would suggest that you copy long quotes; you can always shorten them later. Look back at the sources chart you created last week.

Step 4:

This step will vary for you depending on which form you decide you want your presentation to take:

Essay:
Copy and paste this outline into a new document in Google Docs and fill it out.
Example outline
Go from outline to essay.
PowerPoint:
Make a copy of this Google Slides template and start to fill it out. If you would like to make a Prezi, just follow the general format laid out in this template.
Example PowerPoint
Other: Group together your information under headings and consider the order in which you will present your information. For example, let’s say you are doing a poster board. You might print out and paste the following paragraph to your poster board:

Early Life

(Topic Sentence) Kobe Bryant’s family and early exposure to basketball shaped his path in life in years to come. (Quote/s:) “In 1984, after ending his NBA career, Joe Bryant took the family to Italy, where he played in the Italian League... When the family returned to Philadelphia in 1991, Bryant joined the Lower Merion High School basketball team, leading it to the state championships four years in a row...Though he boasted good grades and high SAT scores, Bryant decided to go straight to the NBA from high school. He was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick of the 1996 NBA draft and was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.” (“Kobe Bryant”). (Analysis:) As of 2018, only 44 high school students had ever been part of the NBA draft. The fact that Kobe Bryant made it to the big leagues straight from high school illustrates his talent and his complete dedication to the game; he could have gone to college and earned a degree in another field with his SAT scores, but instead he chose to dedicate his life to the sport he loved. (So what?) The Charlotte Hornets’ decision to draft Kobe was a historic moment that proved Kobe had both the talent and determination to make it in sometimes the brutal world of competitive sports.
