Marriage in the Bible

As far as contemporary Christianity goes, Christians depend on Paul concepts of marriage, (17). For instance, Paul advices Christian couples to treat each other with respect and asserts equality between a man and a woman. Paul equates conjugal rights to an obligation a husband should fulfill to his wife and vice versa.

 In terms of unity in a marriage, a sample of an Old Testament excerpt declares that people should avoid engaging in sexual immorality outside marriage hence man and woman become one in a marriage setting only. More so, union can occurred between God and man when he sent his only begotten son implying love. Simply put, man and woman become one body just as Christ united his followers with him under one church.( 17).

            To dig further into precepts and ideological issues revolving marriage in the Bible, Hosea made a prostitution his wife. He was faithful to his wife despite of her background and her betrayal. One cannot tell if the Bible points to a steadfast marriage or the fact Hosea remained in the union generally hence relating to Yahweh’s covenant (11).

 Just like any other institution, Christian marriages have certain qualities upheld. First, the Bible and the Torah are full of love. Paul instructed Christians that love encompassed all other laws; one should love their fellow human beings as they love themselves. It is an undisputable fact relevant even in marriage although in marriage takes variant underlying meanings (18).

 Just as Israelites formed a bond with God in a binding covenant, in a covenant, the Israelites had to declare that they will have no other God apart from Yahweh and Yahweh assured the Israelites that they are his people, similar to marriage.
