Why a Good Man Is Hard to Find

A good man is hard to find on earth, not that they do not exist but because they all have weaknesses. The percentage of perfection is what brings up a conclusion that it is hard to find a good man on earth. We have characters like the grandmother who brings out the fact that a good man is hard to find towards the end of the narration. We have a good number of characters well discussed in the narration ‘‘A Good Man Is Hard To Find’’. This paper will bring out clearly a good man is hard to find.

Selfishness theme in the Story, A Good Man Is Hard to Find

Selfishness is one of the characters that is brought out throughout the whole story. This selfish character is brought out through the grandmother who in many aspects appears to be a self–centered woman. The granny did not want to visit the family’s place of choice, she was for visiting Tennessee as she says their place originally (O’Connor & Asals 1993). She ends up going with the family to their place of choice but it was in a way an inconvenience to her. The granny tries to bring in the fact of respect into the picture to convince them of respecting her and take her word of visiting a different place which was her initial home. Writers who offer English assignment help at Edudorm essay writing service notes that she says that for so long the children have not been taken for a vacation towards the place, unfortunately her arguments are not considered. In fact insisting so much on going to Tennessee is what make her family be killed (O’Connor, 2015). After her son, daughter-in-law and her grandchildren are killed she remains begging for her life, she is unconcerned about her people but very self-interested. She finds her life so precious and above others of her own bloodline who are already killed (O’Connor, 2015).

Misunderstanding

Misunderstanding is also a major character trait in the story. We have several people who end up misunderstanding each other in the narration. Before the family leaves for Florida the granny first disagree with the family when she is not willing to go to their place of choice. They disagree but at last the grandmother is won and the visitation is to be at the Florida the family’s choice. Again as the family is on their way to Florida the two children John Wesley and June Star bring out a game that make them end up in a misunderstanding. The game was choosing a cloud and making the other to guess what the shape of the cloud suggested (O’Connor & Asals 1993). Experts who offer English dissertation help at Edudorm essay writing service indicates that John Wesley started but he disagrees with the guess of her sister June and gave another answer, June says that the brother John was not playing a fair game. They later start slapping each other over their grandmother. The grandmother is also not in agreement with the children’s character she says that during their time they were respectful to their elders which was not evident from her grandchildren (O’Connor, 2015).

Characterization in the Story, A Good Man Is Hard to Find

Some characters have been presented as hypocrites in the story. The old woman, Bailey’s mother is at first presented as a church woman. The writer tells us that she is a Christian, her characters all through the story do not give us the expected picture of a Christian lady. Being a Christian we expected her to be a selfless character which is evidently presented otherwise. She is the most selfish character in the story, she appears not to be motherly when her ‘‘loved ones’’ as it should be are killed. She regrets some of her decisions in life like that of choice of a marriage partner. Authors who offer English homework help at Edudorm essay writing service points that she fails to appreciate the small weekly gift of a watermelon that she received from her boyfriend Edger Atkins Teagarden. Appreciation is a character we would expect from her as a real Christian, but the story makes it clear that she failed. Her poor conduct and funny behavior of hiding a cat in the basket leads to an accident when her daughter-in-law is injured. If it were said that she was not a Christian then all through the story she would not have been poorly presented to be a hypocrite.

Bailey’s mother is a real grandmother to her grandchildren, the way she spends her time with John Wesley, June Star and their younger brother is charming as it should be. She spends her time as they travel to Florida narrating stories to them and even helping them learn the new things they met on their way (O’Connor & Asals 1993). Tutors who offer English coursework help at Edudorm essay writing service acknowledges that the children enjoy the company of their granny completely and are very free to talk to her ask her questions. They laugh together play their games over her but she is comfortable to have them play around her. She even takes the younger brother to helping the mother to carry her, her love for children is well presented and commendable.

Conclusion

The characterization of the story of ‘’A Good Man Is Hard to Find’’ is well presented throughout the story having the main character, the grandmother. Her character in the story is diversified. She is good to some people to certain degrees and to some other extents she deviates and regards the same people otherwise. She is a Christian by name but her characters are not of a Christian. She loves her grandchildren but when it’s time to loose life she is self-centered. There are many other characters but she is best advanced in relation to other characters. She clearly brings out that finding an all-round good man is hard through the way she is presented on both the good and the negative.
