Paper Instructions:

Case: Marco has been a salesperson for the XYZ cellular phone service company for the last seven years. He has been a solid employee: he has always met his sales goals and received good evaluations from his supervisors. Marco is Facebook friends with his coworker Linda, who is Facebook friends with their manager John. One day John noticed that Linda had commented on a Facebook post by Marco’s sister Julia about how happy Julia was with the customer service at ABC cellular phone network, one of XYZ’s competitors. John did not like that Marco’s sister was a customer of XYZ’s competitor. The next day John called Marco into his office, and fired Marco for this reason.

Your goal in this paper is take a position on and defend your answer to the following question:

Was John, acting on behalf of XYZ, morally justified in terminating Marco? Why or why not?
To do this, you must:
(a) explain both the employment at will (EAW) and due process views on what the employment
relationship should be like,
(b) explain what each view would say about Marco’s case, and
(c) defendoneofthetwoviewsaboutwhatourlawsshouldberegardingemployment.
When defending your position, make sure to offer both ethical arguments in favor of your position, and counterarguments where you consider ethical objections and arguments made by the other side, and try to undermine those ethical objections/arguments so as to defend your position.
