  •             Management refers to all the activities that various personnel carry out in an organization in order to plan and control the ongoing activities for better results at the end of financial year. In order for an organization to perform the required necessary obligations, there is a need to have fundamental managerial principals. The principles provide the managers with a conceptual scheme. The principles are guided by the managerial functions. Managerial functions provide heightened to all the respective managers of all the necessary obligations and skills they ought to employ in order to help the organization achieve the recommended performances. There is a need of exercising understanding of valuable leadership skills to enhance implementation of managerial functions. Managers also have the obligation of making sure that they are able to set clear objectives through implementation of managerial functions. The managers can only be able to achieve this role if they are able to use techniques to develop performance. Management functions are grouped into planning, organizing and controlling. Other managerial functions include staffing and leading. This paper gives specific examples of how an organization ought to implement each managerial function through using my workplace example, which is UT Medical Group. All the managerial functions must be adapted to be carried out within particular tasks and situations.
  • UT Medical Group
  •             This is a large sub specialty medical practice located in Memphis, TN. The medical institution has been on practice for 35 years. There are more than 340 physicians in the institution and other medical providers. The best issue about this particular medical institution is that its staff members are able to treat chronic medical condition and perform organ transplant. After being able to provide competent services, the medical staffs from the institution were able to receive an award. In order to achieve all this, the management of UT Medical group has played the following obligations regarding managerial functions.
  • Planning
  •             Planning entails, the way managers in an organization are able to select various missions and objectives and find the best implementation strategy in order to achieve them. Planning requires high skills in decision making in order to identify the best ideas among various. Planning varies from purpose and objectives that the institution ought to offer the organization is ready to make a step and work on the made decision. Prior to that, an organization or the management only have a planning study or strategy but not the real plan (Zengin & Ada, 2010).
  •             Taking into account the planning strategy in UT Medical Group, it entails management of the organization in making various decisions that contribute to achieving the targeted strategic goals. In order to enhance effectiveness in the management structure of the organization, it refers to employ most of its employees from the University of Tennessee. This is because most of the physicians from this particular Health Science Center tend to get involved with research work in the medical field. Therefore, they are always updated with the latest medical developments. The other planning strategy that the management achieves to implement is the payment issue. Apart from accepting cash, the medical institution accepts payment by insurance, check and credit cards. This enhances accessibility of medical services to all people from every part of the world. The organization has a set strategy that enhances answering of various questions to all patients and members of the public. Therefore creating awareness of what it is capable of doing especially on complex issues. The management also makes sure that it offers the directions and phone contact through all necessary means.
  • Organizing
  •             Organizing entail making sure that there is strong relationship in all the groups that promote profit making or the well-being of an organization. Managers have the obligation of establishing roles that ought to be followed by other members of the organization. Organizing means, that management is able to set a certain strategy that would make it possible to accomplish certain specific goals (Reilly, Minnick & Baack, 2011). Management has a role of finding the right person to complete a certain job in the organization. This is also one of the obligations accomplished through advance organizing structure. The main purpose of an organizing structure is to make sure that it creates the best environment for human performance. Organizing is a tool in the management system that establishes the right employee to perform a certain role after realizing their abilities and motivation (Zengin & Ada, 2010).
  •             In UT Medical Group, the management applies organizing structure while carrying out various roles and obligations in the institution. The management is eligible through human resource department is eligible for finding out who areas that require more human workforce. The institution being a private arm from the University of Tennessee, the management writes a letter to the faculty indicating that there is a need to have extra employee in a certain department. The faculty is the one that makes the decision of whether it necessary to make an addition of another employee. The management has also the obligation of checking customers’ contacts and identifying what they require from the institution. If clients require services of a certain physician or medical profession, the management has the obligation of notifying the particular personnel. If the personnel cannot be available on the client’s preferred date, the management finds another alternative.
  • Staffing
  •             Staffing entail the manner in which the organization manages its filling process. This is done by using the necessary procedures while identifying workforce requirements. Staffing also entails inventorying the right people available to perform a certain objective. The filling process requires recruiting, selecting, placing and promoting various personnel in order to make sure that there is efficiency and effectiveness in all the tasks carried out in the organization. Staffing also entail the desire and ability to carryout various responsibilities in the organization (Gospel, & Sako, 2010).
  •             In UT Medical Group, the management through the human resource department has the obligation of making sure that there is flow of services in the recommended way. This is through establishing job definitions and making sure that there are effective appraisals. Moreover, the management through human resource department has the obligation of identifying the best system for training and development. In UT Medical Group, the management through respective departments does staffing. For example, in hiring of employees, clinic staff is hired by departmental managers. Every department is reliable of finding the out whether there is a need of adding another staff member and is given the opportunity of finding the right person for that opportunity. President of institution hires doctors according to their area of preference.
  • Leading
  •             Leading refers to the manner of influencing people in order they can be able to help the organization achieve the best. Leading depends on the ability of a manager to convince and guide employees on what is the best to do regarding a certain issue that would enhance more income generation. Leading implies helping employees to have the right attitude towards working environment in order to make the best from their contribution. Therefore, this managerial function requires managers to have the right leadership skills. Leadership involves various characteristic that include motivation and communication skills. This means that employees prefer to follow leaders who meet their needs and wishes and have strong relationship with them (John, 2011).
  •             In UT Medical group, leadership is the main fundamental obligation that the management makes sure it offers the first priority. This means that through leadership, the institution is able to relate with all the employees and stakeholders in order to make sure that there is a smooth movement of all the operations. All the managers in various departments of the institution have the obligation of making sure that they give the best example to other departmental employees. Some of the skills that the institution requires its managers to have include technical skill, administrative skills and conceptual skills. Other necessary skills include technical skills and human relations skills. By employing the above skills together with others, the management makes sure that it is capable of giving the best.
  • Controlling
  •              This refers to the manner in which the institution is able to implement and make the best in all the operations that take place on a daily routine. This managerial function helps to measure and control performance. Most of the managers perform this obligation by being able to set their goals and plans. By so doing, they are able to depict where negative deviations might exist (John, 2011).
  •             In UT medical Group, planning has to precede controlling. The management of the institution believes that planning is not self-achieving. Managers have the obligation of making sure that there is all healthcare services meet the recommended specifications and clients are happy with the services. The management has the obligation of making sure that there are enough patient resources.
  • Conclusion
  •             All the managerial functions must be adapted to be carried out within particular tasks and situations. Management entails making sure that there is proper recommendable and safe working environment for all the employments. This helps the organization to make the best out of its operations. Applying the above five, outlined managerial function helps the organization to achieve its targeted goals. This is because it is able to design and maintain an environment fit for everyone. In UT Medical group, using the managerial functions help the organization to make the best and create a strong relationship with the employees. All the achievements that the institution has managed to do is because of having competent managerial department.
