Paper instructions:

This should be no more than 3000 words in length. It should be in the format of an academic research proposal. 

When preparing your work for submission, bear in mind the following:

$    Number the pages and give a word count on the top sheet.

$    No extra marks are awarded for illustrations, or other decorative features. Remember that this is an academic paper and they are not usually decorated in this way. Your work will be assessed on the quality of the content of the written work - but you may of course include figures, tables or diagrams where these are appropriate or essential to your argument.


Final paper assessment criteria: 

Tutors will be looking for the following:

•    Clear statement of the scope, aims and objectives of your research proposal

•    Relevant, up-to-date literature review, taking into account current debate on the subject in academic journals

•    An appropriate methodology, setting out the research philosophy, strategy, methods and proposed analytical approaches

•    A proposed project plan, setting out timings, resources and costs.

In order to do this, you will need to demonstrate:

•    Clear exposition of arguments expressed in your own words

•    Evidence of wide, up-to-date reading 

•    Use of both theoretical and empirical literature in discussion and analysis

•    Full references and bibliography using the Harvard system



Research Proposal  -3000 word count.
approx. 1500 words devoted to a literature review.
approx. 1500 words devoted to an explanation of your intended topic and intended methodology.

LITERATURE REVIEW 

-No more than 40% of total word count
-focuses on the topic in a 'macro/broad sense'
-provides the academic underpinning of your research. provides definitions.
-helps to inform your primary research.
-and therefore helps to achieve your research questions , aim and objectives.
-Ensure you succinctly describe , explain and discuss;
-Relevant theories (relating to your topic/field)
Diagnostic frameworks, models (if applicable)
-past and current research from articles, journals, books, reports, relevant bodies- critique, argue, compare debates and reference 
-provide evidence for assertions (statistics, quotes)
-current issues and current problems
-examples of good practice from other case study organisations written-up in literature.

METHODOLOGY

-Classification of research (This is Management Research, therefore falls under ‘Applied Research’)
-Epistemological paradigm (Pos., Phen., Prag.)
-My research design (Qual, Quant, Triangulated)
-My research approach (Inductive/Deductive)
-My research strategy (example: case study strategy)
-My data collection method’s: Detail on the methods i intend to use for collecting data. Justification for those choices (ref. the RM books)

-Detail on the sample (who, how many, how selected- probability ; non-probability).
-Detail on logistics (intended venues etc).
-No need for actual questionnaires or interview schedules but.......perhaps some -indication of the types/ nature of the questions if possible
-Indication of how your data will be analysed.
-How I intend to ensure my data collection methods are 'fit for purpose’ and follow good research practice.
