Tell us a little about yourself?

Questions and Topics We Can Help You To Answer:

Every job interview usually begins, or sometimes ends, with the following question: “Tell us a little about yourself?” It is a question that applicants, nervous and self-conscious quickly try to dismiss or respond to with some formulated resume type answer, like “I’m a quick learner and a self starter.” Rarely does the applicant give the interviewer a clear sense of what they’ve been asked: “Tell us about you.” Tell us your story, in a nutshell.

People are hardwired to seek and make sense of the world through narratives. Your success with that interview question – as well as in today’s business world in general – could be based largely in your understanding and mastery of the oldest of communication devices – story.

So what’s your narrative?

To help you find and refine your personal narrative, each student is asked to write a script for, and present a no less than three-minute or more than five minute short talk to the class. For this exercise, your talk must be in story form. Like any good story, you can use words, sounds and supporting images in its telling. Your story must have a beginning, middle, and an end. At the beginning of the class session on Week Eight everyone will turn in a copy of their script, regardless of whether you are scheduled to present that day or not.

Using story, lead us through the challenges you have faced and provide us with a moral at the end, all through the matrix of your personal story.

Your oral presentation will be graded on your adherence to length restrictions and verbal and visual presentation.
