Parable of the Sower can be categorized a hero’s journey, falling somewhat into the template of the monomyth or Hero's Journey. This idea comes from scholar, mythologist and writer Joseph Campbell, who believed that all myths the world over essentially tell one story, or use one basic formula. S


Yet, Lauren’s story does not quite fit perfectly into the mold of the typical hero’s journey. Or does it? What do you think?

Writing Prompt: Explain the monomyth or Hero’s Journey, and then analyze Parable of the Sower for evidence of its place in this category. How is it very similar to the typical hero’s story? How is it different? You MUST focus specifically on a few stages of the monomyth, and several specific passages from Parable of the Sower.

Your primary source is the novel itself.  You must cite in your paper TWO secondary sources. Certain very reliable Web sites can be acceptable, as can articles in newspapers or magazines. You may use the sources that I provide in Course Materials.
